We are looking for a skilled accountant or a highly experienced book-keeper, to work closely with the Finance Director and to wholly manage the day-to-day accounting function. The role entails full book-keeping, financial reconciliations and reporting and compliance - for three small legal entities with a combined turnover of 5.5m. You should have experience in using Xero Accounting Software and have be extremely competent in working in Excel.

You have the flexibility to work exclusively from home but we do have a small office in Henfield, West Sussex where you will be very welcome to join us at any time. A full-time position 9am to 5pm is available - but f

or the right candidate, there is some flexibility if less hours and/or different timings are needed. The final working pattern will be negotiated and agreed with the successful candidate.



Key Responsibilities



Maintain accurate financial records for three legal entities Assist posting supplier invoices and reconcile supplier statements Oversee sales invoicing support and credit control Reconcile bank accounts and manage cash flow Process accounts payable and ensure timely payments Post journals and maintain supporting schedules Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports Reconcile all balance sheet and control accounts Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements (PAYE, VAT) Manage salaried payroll in conjunction with an external bureau Prepare year-end audit packs and liaise with external auditors Maintain relationships with banks, accountants, clients, insurers, and other stakeholders Conduct internal financial audits to ensure accuracy and compliance Collaborate with internal teams to support financial decision-making

Requirements



Proven experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role Qualified by experience or part/full-qualified

Experience in a small business environment Proficiency in Xero and strong Excel skills Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial controls Meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical skills Tech-savvy and process improvement oriented Highly organised and capable of managing multiple tasks Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently Positive, flexible, and a team player with a can-do attitude
