About the Role: The Compliance Lawyer position has an essential and strategic role to play within the Office of the General Counsel at Latham. In this role you will be responsible for providing legal support and guidance for firm compliance programs at the global, local, and team levels, particularly in the areas of financial crime, including criminal corporate offences, sanctions, and Anti-Money Laundering (\xe2\x80\x9cAML\xe2\x80\x9d). Furthermore, you\xe2\x80\x99ll also be actively involved in monitoring compliance-related statutory, regulatory, and other developments in the jurisdictions in which the firm operates, and proactively leading initiatives to update global and local compliance programs when required. This role will be located in either our London or Manchester offices. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. Responsibilities & Qualifications: Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising the firm and providing guidance to OGC team on issues relating to financial crime, sanctions and AML compliance.
  • Preparing and submitting firm compliance reports to government regulators, including the Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation (\xe2\x80\x9cOFSI\xe2\x80\x9d)
  • Acting as a leader in the OGC compliance team, drafting policies, controls and procedures and assisting with the implementation of the AML strategic plan projects.
  • Assisting with the compliance program relating to criminal corporate offences and in particular risk assessments relating to compliance with anti-bribery legislation, the Criminal Finances Act & the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act
  • Assisting with the firm\xe2\x80\x99s DAC6 compliance program
  • Preparing responses to compliance-related inquiries from firm clients, vendors, external regulators, internal and external auditors, and other third parties; developing and updating protocols, standard responses, and templates for responding to such requests

  • Display initiative, self-motivation, and an ability to work independently
  • Exhibit an advanced ability to perceive and analyse problems and develop alternative strategies to solve them

And have:
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree
  • A law degree from an accredited law school
  • Qualified as a Solicitor, preferably in England & Wales however candidates qualified in another jurisdiction are also eligible to apply
  • A minimum of 3-4 years\xe2\x80\x99 post qualified experience within financial crime compliance
  • Experience managing global compliance projects in a large international law firm
