The Construction Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) is responsible for ensuring assessment decisions within construction-based qualifications are fair, valid, reliable, and consistent. The role monitors assessors, maintains compliance with awarding body requirements, and upholds the quality of assessment and training delivery.
Key Responsibilities Internal Quality Assurance
Monitor assessor performance to ensure assessments meet required standards and criteria.
Sample assessment decisions, portfolios, on-site evidence, and learner submissions.
Provide constructive feedback, support, and guidance to assessors.
Maintain high standards of validity, reliability, consistency, and authenticity in assessment processes.
Lead standardisation activities, ensuring assessors apply uniform judgement.
Verify that assessment processes comply with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain up-to-date IQA records, sampling plans, and audit documentation.
Prepare reports for internal audits, external quality assurance (EQA) visits, and compliance checks.
Ensure assessment documentation, policies, and procedures are correctly followed and updated.
Assessor Support & Development
Mentor new assessors and support them through induction and ongoing professional development.
Identify assessor training needs and contribute to CPD planning.
Provide coaching on assessment methods, evidence requirements, and best practice.
Continuous Improvement
Recommend improvements to assessment systems and practices.
Participate in standardisation meetings, moderation sessions, and quality reviews.
Promote a strong quality culture across assessment teams and training delivery.
IQA Requirements (Mandatory)
Nominated IQAs must:
Hold relevant construction industry qualifications at Level 3
(Examples: Level 3 Construction Operations, Level 3 Site Carpentry, Level 3 Bricklaying, or equivalent.)
Hold OR be working towards a recognised IQA qualification
, such as:
Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice* Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice* D34 or V1 Verifier Awards*
Maintain appropriate CPD relevant to the units being assessed
, ensuring ongoing competency and up-to-date industry knowledge.
