Construction Technician

Dumfries | 33,159.26 pro rata | 19 hours per week | 40 weeks per year

Dumfries and Galloway College is looking to appoint a committed and skilled Construction Technician to support our Construction team at the Dumfries Campus.

Hours

08:45-16:30 - standard working hours, can be split over 3 - 5 days, working pattern to be agreed

This is a practical and varied role where you will play a key part in maintaining workshop facilities, ensuring that machinery and equipment are in good working order, and that materials are prepared and ready for use. You will help create a safe and well-organised environment that supports effective learning.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing, ordering, and receipting of construction materials. Preparing and maintaining materials and resources for classes. General workshop duties, including safe storage and housekeeping. Maintenance of workshop machinery and equipment. Supporting lecturers in the delivery of practical sessions. Completing COSHH and risk assessments in line with college policy. Operating a counterbalance forklift to move and manage materials safely. Using IT systems and Microsoft Office products to manage stock, orders, and workshop records. Taking opportunities to contribute as a First Aider or Fire Marshal (training provided).

Essential Knowledge and Experience

Practical knowledge and experience across key construction trades - particularly bricklaying, plumbing, and painting. Confident IT skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage materials and resources efficiently. A proactive and safety-conscious approach to workshop operations. Effective teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

A minimum of SCQF Level 5 (or equivalent) in a construction-related qualification is required. A Level 6 or above trade qualification may provide future progression opportunities within Further Education.

Desirable

Forklift licence (training available if not already held). Previous experience in a workshop or technical support environment. Health and Safety or First Aid certification.
