Job Description

Oastlers @ Keighley is a purpose-built school for secondary school age learners with social, emotional and mental health needs. Some have additional learning difficulties compounded by other complex issues, which combined, create barriers to learning. It is the second site for the school and with a specific focus on vocational pathways into employment or further education.

We are seeking to appoint a Construction Tutor who, not only understands complex emotional, social and mental health needs of secondary aged learners, but one who is also sympathetic and sensitive to the very difficulties our learners face in their personal lives and help them overcome those barriers to succeed. The person appointed will demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation, be a "hands on" person who can encourage young people to engage in this project and develop valuable skills to help them progress into employment in the construction sectors and/or into further training.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities



Plan and facilitate well-structured, high quality learning experiences to meet learner needs.

Motivate and inspire learners establishing positive and respectful working relationships, use interactive and engaging approaches to teaching, promoting timely achievement and enabling positive progression. Apply appropriate and fair methods of assessment, provide constructive verbal and written feedback that ensures learners know how to improve and make progress Maintain effective links with employers, provide good levels of support and guidance and effective workplace training. Maintain up to date and accurate records of individual learning and progress through the programme, provide swift support and intervention for learners who start to fall behind. Maintain safe learning environments, effectively promote Health and Safety, Proficient in a range of construction skills including brickwork, groundworks and basic joinery. Safeguarding and Prevent, ensuring learners are aware of strategies for staying safe online. Ensure inclusive learning environments, effectively promote equality, diversity and inclusion and British values. Support learners with SEND to meet their specific needs and overcome individual barriers to learning, where appropriate collaborating with learning support assistants and EHCP officer. Embed English, maths and employability in vocational sessions to prepare learners for the world of work. Contribute to and participate in quality improvement activities. Take responsibility for keeping up to date with appropriate sector and educational developments, including industrial updates and participate in appropriate training and development activities that support your performance. Operate with flexibility around location and programme Carry out duties in accordance with the Quality Systems and Procedures currently in place throughout the organisation. Ensure the operation of efficient and safe environments and perform with due regard for the health, safety and welfare of all within the guidelines of Exceed Academies Trust and Oastlers School policies To undertake other such duties which are commensurate with the post as may be required from time to time, by the Head of Centre

Other Considerations:



Be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the Equality Act.

Must be legally entitled to work in the UK

No contra-indications in personal background or criminal record indicating unsuitability to work with children/young people/vulnerable clients/finance (An enhanced DBS check is required).

Intermediate Threshold Fluency Duty Required:



In line with the Immigration Act 2016; the Government has created a duty to ensure that all Public Authority staff working in customer facing roles can speak fluent English to an appropriate standard.

The post holder should demonstrate:

They can express themselves fluently and spontaneously with minimal effort and,

Only the requirement to explain difficult concepts may hinder a natural smooth flow of language.

Essential Skills and Experience



Recognised qualifications in a construction discipline at a minimum of level 3 or equivalent

Up to date, knowledge of a range of Construction learning programmes and their assessment methods

Teaching and assessment qualification or working towards Experience of working with young people Experience of liaising with outside agencies Experience within a training or related environment Ability to plan, produce and deliver effective training sessions using and evaluating teaching methods appropriate to learner groups. Good time management and organisational skills Able to travel to meet the needs of the role.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to 26.32 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
