Job overview

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to provide clinical leadership in the Restormel Community Mental Health Team based in St Austell. This community post has become available at an exciting time for Mental Health services in Cornwall as we embark on a journey of transformation to develop services for the future.

The developmental aspect of the post will include a greater emphasis on primary care interface working as part of a new 'core model' of mental health care, in addition to the typical CMHT psychiatric work. This offers the post-holder a stimulating opportunity to influence service development alongside their clinical responsibilities.

We are seeking individuals who are open to new ways of working, interested in developing services for the future, or who may be looking to consider research or teaching in addition to a clinical role.

We are open to discussing appropriate recruitment and relocation packages to enable suitably qualified individuals to move to Cornwall.

Main duties of the job

The Restormel Team, with its 2 consultant psychiatrists, covers a population of approximately 97,000. There is a planned programme of demand and capacity mapping funded by Health Education England (Clinically-Led workforce Activity and Redesign (CLEAR)) across community mental health services in Cornwall. These boundaries might be subject to change over the coming years.

The post-holder will cover surgeries in Newquay, St Stephen, and Roche. Outpatient clinics are primarily held in Newquay and St Austell, as per the indicative timetable below.

The consultant contributes to clinical leadership within the team but is only medically responsible for individuals that they have contact with.

The post is supported by a full time GP Trainee who works under the consultant's supervision. The consultant will be Clinical Supervisor for the Trainee and as such weekly supervision time will be ring-fenced.

Working for our organisation

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
