Applications are invited for the above post which is based at The Royal London Children's Hospital and Mile End Community Hospital in Tower Hamlets, London. The successful applicant will form a key part of the Paediatric Neurology service at Royal London Hospital and will develop and lead a fetal neurology service with the Obstetric and Neonatal departments. They will lead and develop paediatric neurodisability services within Tower Hamlets.
The Royal London Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust. Paediatric services are provided at The Royal London Children's Hospital, Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital. The Clinical Department of Paediatric Neurology of Barts Health NHS Trust is based at the Royal London Children's Hospital. The Department provides Tertiary Paediatric Neurology care to a population of 2.5 million children in North-East London.
The successful candidate will also be required to adhere to the Trust's policy on maintaining medical excellence and will be committed to maintaining a high standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.
Main duties of the job
The Neurology multidisciplinary team includes 4 other Paediatric Neurology Consultants, three resident doctors, two epilepsy specialist nurses and two neurology specialist nurses. There is an active inpatient service with 1 videotelemetry bed, 10 bedded PICU with an active major trauma service and specialist clinics for Tone Management, Traumatic Brain Injury and Specialist Epilepsy. We have close links with both Great Ormond Street Hospital and Evelina Children's Hospital and there is opportunity to develop further specialist services dependent on the successful applicant's interests and expertise.
There is close collaboration with the adult Neurology team and dedicated transition clinics are in place for epilepsy, with plans to extend this model to other neurological conditions.
The multidisciplinary team includes consultant community and general paediatricians, specialist nurses, therapists, and allied health professionals working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, family-centred care. The service covers a range of neurodevelopmental conditions, including physical disabilities, complex epilepsy, genetic syndromes, and learning disabilities, providing holistic support tailored to each child's needs.
There is an identified need to improve services for children with complex neurodisability in the community and the successful candidate with work closely with the therapy team and existing consultant body to develop and improve this service.
