Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are rapidly transforming the way Financial Institutions (FIs) manage risk. While financial risk has traditionally been addressed through statistical models, the scale, complexity, and interconnectedness of modern financial markets are driving a shift towards highly data-driven, adaptive approaches.
ML and AI techniques are increasingly being applied across all major risk types -- including credit, market, liquidity, model, and operational risk -- to identify emerging risks, detect anomalies, forecast exposures, and support decision-making under uncertainty. At the same time, these technologies are introducing new types of model and systemic risks that require robust governance and validation frameworks.
As Financial Institutions seek to modernise their risk infrastructure, regulators are responding with evolving expectations around explainability, fairness, and accountability in the use of AI. This is creating strong demand for practitioners who can bridge the gap between advanced analytics and sound risk management practices -- combining technical excellence with an understanding of the regulatory and business context.

Connect to your opportunity
The ideal candidate is a recent graduate with a solid foundation in mathematics, statistics, and Python programming--particularly in the context of machine learning and data science. Exposure to generative AI is a bonus. They should be comfortable developing production-quality code, while also remaining flexible enough to participate in more conventional market risk engagements (e.g., model validation, risk analytics, or methodology reviews) that require quantitative thinking and problem-solving. Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus the ability to manage tight deadlines in a client-driven environment, are essential. They must have a mindset conducive to rigorous testing and validation, be open to learning new tools and techniques, and collaborate well with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. While prior experience in financial services is not mandatory, the successful candidate should demonstrate a genuine interest in quantitative finance and financial risk--particularly market risk--and show enthusiasm for growing their skills in a fast-paced, consulting-focused setting.
Assist designing, building, and validating AI/ML models to address various risk areas (e.g., credit, market, model), ensuring they meet regulatory and internal standards.
Analyse relevant financial regulations (e.g., FRTB, IRRBB, model risk management), identify gaps in client processes, and propose/implement practical, technically robust solutions to address them.
Translate high-level business requirements into technical specifications; write, test, and deploy Python code for analytical models and automation.
Write robust and reliable Python code for ad-hoc data analysis, being able to analyse and present findings quickly and concisely.
Gather, clean, and process large datasets for use in predictive and descriptive analytics; maintain data pipelines and troubleshoot data quality issues.
Work with client teams (e.g., model risk, compliance, IT) to interpret requirements, define project scope, and develop viable solutions.
Present findings, models, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, producing documentation where needed.
Stay informed of evolving regulations and best practices around AI/ML in financial services (e.g. SS1/23); incorporate regulatory requirements into model design and governance.
Monitor model performance, identify areas for enhancement, and keep abreast of industry developments (including emerging topics such as GenAI).
Own end-to-end tasks, ensuring on-time delivery while maintaining high quality and adhering to internal review processes.

This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
