Job Summary:
As a
Consultant Psychiatrist
, you will play a pivotal role in leading clinical teams and delivering high-quality mental healthcare to individuals with enduring mental health conditions. This opportunity is based at Exeter, UK, a 36-bed inpatient service with a collaborative, multidisciplinary care model. You will work alongside another Consultant Psychiatrist, two Associate Specialists, and a wide clinical team across both male and female wards.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical leadership and oversight for up to 16 patients, with support from an Associate Specialist
Formulate individualized care plans and oversee evidence-based treatment
Participate in multidisciplinary team collaboration, including nursing, psychology, OT, and social work
Ensure compliance with Mental Health Act legislation and NICE guidelines
Liaise with families, care coordinators, commissioners, and external agencies
Participate in second-tier on-call rota as the duty Responsible Clinician
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and discharge summaries
Comply with NHSE contractual obligations and professional regulations
Requirements:
Must-Haves:
Full GMC registration with license to practice
MBBS or equivalent from a GMC-recognized institution
MRCPsych or equivalent recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or willingness to obtain)
Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Psychiatry
Minimum 12 years' experience in psychiatry with at least 2 years in a consultant-level role (UK-based if sponsorship is required)
Experience managing acute psychiatric inpatients and working in multidisciplinary teams
Nice-to-Haves:
Background in general adult, forensic, or rehabilitation psychiatry
Prior work experience in UK NHS trusts or private mental healthcare providers
Interest in leadership, service improvement, or medical education
