Job Title: Scientific Advisor/Trainer
Location: Manchester
Salary: 29-35k (DOE)+ 4250 car or car allowance + fantastic benefits package including private healthcare + buy and sell holidays.
We are continuing to grow our Fire Science and Chemical Management consultancy group and as a result are now looking to recruit an ambitious individual to join our industry leading team.
As a Scientific Advisor / Trainer you will be providing training to and acting as a scientific advisor for UK emergency services (Fire, Ambulance and Police) and large commercial clients, plus ensuring successful delivery of a wide range of consultancy and training projects.
Potential candidates should note that training courses are provided at locations across the UK (including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and some courses last for 5 days. Therefore the ability and willingness to travel is essential with a readiness to be flexible in working from various locations around the UK.
The Scientific Advisor role includes participation in a 24/7/365 rota for which the expectation is for each advisor to be on-call one week in every four. Additional standby payments are made for these on-call periods.
Responsibilities will include:

• Development and delivery of technical training to emergency service and industrial clients in topics relating to hazardous materials, incident management, use of monitoring and testing equipment as well as good practice guidance and legislation
• Carrying out assessment of delegates where required and providing learner feedback
• Ensuring quality assurance of training services and taking part in standardisation procedures
• Maintaining our current accreditation for training courses and looking to broaden the accredited training services portfolio
• Working as part of a team providing scientific support to emergency services as part of an out of hours response rota (1 week in 4)
• Undertaking consultancy services and activities relating to the supply, use and disposal of hazardous materials including incident management
• Maintaining, calibrating and deploying a wide range of analytical equipment (Infra-red, Gas Chromatography/mass spectrometry and Raman techniques) to detect, identify or monitor a range of hazardous materials.
• Providing detailed reports following consultancy projects on results, findings and conclusions.
• Keeping abreast of current legislation, relevant national and international standards and guidelines and technical developments within the relevant field and provide guidance to clients
• Provideinghigh quality technical consultancy to clients and team members within the Consulting Group
• To support other areas of consultancy such as air quality, fire risk assessment and certification services in delivery of projects.

Candidate requirements include:
Qualifications Required:
We are looking for an experienced trainer, or teacher (minimum level 3 AET) with a background/qualifications in Chemistry. A confident speaker who can draw knowledge from an array of disciplines to answer complex technical queries.
Essential

• The Candidate will have qualifications in Chemistry at degree level, or alternatively experience working in the Chemical industry in a laboratory setting.

• You will need to have good organisational skills and be adaptable to a changeable working environment.

• Willingness to travel and ability to adapt to work in various locations is essential. Flexibility in contributing to the on-call rota for technical support services is essential.

• Full driving license.

Desirable

• Formal teaching qualification as a minimum Level 3 AET formally PETALS and CAVA in

assessment or comparable experience in a teaching or a training environment

• Experience in the use of monitoring equipment

• Member of a related professional institution
