All about the Role





As a Family Time Practitioner, you will:


Manage complex cases and deliver structured interventions to support children and young people in care during family time with parents, siblings, and other relatives. Ensure the local authority's statutory duty to promote family time is fulfilled, balancing emotional needs and safeguarding responsibilities. Act as an agent of change within family systems, empowering family members to engage positively and safely. Foster relationships with families who may be vulnerable or have limited capacity for change, helping to manage risk and support progress.

Responsibilities




Supervise and facilitate family time sessions in various venues and community settings. Organise and chair Family Time Agreement and review meetings with professionals and family members. Support families during crisis moments using effective de-escalation strategies. Observe and record interactions during sessions, maintaining accurate and factual notes. Mediate and intervene when necessary to ensure sessions remain safe and productive. Role model positive parenting behaviours and provide practical advice and guidance. Liaise with professionals, attend meetings, and contribute to assessments and reports. Arrange transport and ensure venues are welcoming and age-appropriate. Develop Family Time Plans and risk assessments in partnership with families. Attend case conferences, reviews, and court proceedings as required. Participate in regular supervision and team meetings.

The Contact Supervision Team is a dedicated group of professionals committed to supporting children, young people, and families during supervised family time. Led by an experienced Manager, the team consists of

eight skilled Contact Supervisors

who facilitate safe, meaningful interactions between children in care and their families, ensuring emotional wellbeing and safeguarding are at the heart of every session. Supporting the team's operations is

one Operational Support Assistant

, who plays a vital role in coordinating logistics, managing resources, and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day activities. Together, the team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality, child-focused services across a range of settings.

We're looking for someone who:


Has experience working with children, young people, and families in a safeguarding or support role. Can manage emotionally complex situations with professionalism and empathy. Is confident in chairing meetings and working collaboratively with multi-agency teams. Has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Is flexible, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for children in care.
