We're looking for a creative, driven and detail-focused Content Officer to join our expanding Brand Content team - we're the storytellers behind how we showcase our University and broader city to our prospective students and other audiences.

In this important role, you'll help deliver our brand and digital content strategy, producing impactful stories - in a range of formats for multiple channels - that inspire action and elevate our profile across the UK and internationally.

You'll play a hands-on part in growing our student body, creating standout social media content, producing dynamic video and event coverage, capturing high-quality photography and writing compelling copy that reflects the real experiences of our student, alumni and academic communities. Your work will highlight our academic strengths, celebrate our diverse community and bring the energy of Birmingham to life.

If you're passionate about storytelling, excited by creative challenge and ready to make a measurable impact, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll do

As a Content Officer, you will:

Produce high-quality, engaging multimedia content - including photography, video, and copy - that tells the BCU story across our social media channels, website, events and campaigns. Create and coordinate content that resonates with prospective students throughout the recruitment cycle. Play a key role in student recruitment campaigns, helping deliver content-first strategies that inform, inspire, and convert. Work collaboratively within a supportive team of content specialists, ensuring everything you produce aligns with our brand guidelines, tone of voice, and creative standards. Support content needs across a range of channels - from paid and organic social to email, digital campaigns, and events. Occasionally work with the VCO and Communications team to support internal communications. Promote and support University events such as Open Day, Graduation and Offer Holder Days. Bring fresh creative ideas that reflect current trends in social media, videography, and digital storytelling.

About you

You'll be a confident and collaborative content creator with a strong visual eye and a passion for storytelling. You'll be excited by the challenge of capturing the spirit of our students and the city we call home.

You'll also bring:

A portfolio to demonstrate strong skills in social media strategy, creation, management and community engagement. Proven experience in photography and videography, including editing for different platforms and channels. An understanding of content-led marketing and how to tailor work for a variety of digital channels and audiences. Excellent copywriting and proofing skills, with meticulous attention to detail. Experience with content management systems (CMS) - while not essential, it's a bonus. The ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and stay creatively inspired. A first degree or equivalent experience.

WORKING AND LIVING IN BIRMINGHAM

The youngest city in Europe with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of the population, Birmingham is a city full of energy and enthusiasm and is a great place to live and work.

Based in the heart of England, the city is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Birmingham New Street station has recently undergone major redevelopment, while the city is at the heart of the high-speed rail network, HS2. HS2 will provide new rapid rail travel connecting Birmingham City Centre to London and the rest of the network from the new Curzon Street Station - adjacent to Birmingham City University's City Centre Campus - and will be one of the most environmentally friendly stations in the world.

The city's appetite for progression is boundless, and it has been championing innovation since the earliest days of the Industrial Revolution, reflected in Birmingham City University's new STEAMhouse building which opened in October 2022 and is home to an inter-disciplinary community of entrepreneurs, businesses, academic researchers, and students offering a wealth of support to companies of all sizes to boost growth through innovation to address commercial and societal challenges.

Birmingham is brimming with great theatres, museums, the world-famous Birmingham City University Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, as well as beautiful historical buildings and the iconic Library of Birmingham. It also has amazing concert and sporting venues including Edgbaston Cricket ground, which Birmingham City University has a long-standing partnership with. It is also home to the Alexander Stadium, which is the stunning new home for Birmingham City University's sport courses. The Stadium was one of the main event spaces for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022, which saw the eyes of the world on the city, and Birmingham City University staff and students played pivotal roles - including designing the official medals for winning athletes.

Birmingham's vibrant dining scene offers something for all tastes, including Michelin star restaurants, Spiceal Street at the Bullring, the Chinese Quarter, and the famous Balti Triangle.

The city also provides a great place to shop, being home the Bullring and Grand Central, the luxurious Mailbox Birmingham and the world-famous home of British bling - the Jewellery Quarter, which is home to Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery.

From Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and the beautiful arcades and independents, to the city's historic markets in Digbeth, the shops in Birmingham offer a plethora of choice.

BCU Values underpin how we work in achieving the ambitions set out in our Strategy and Priorities, and are the principles that unite the way we work together and for our students.
