The role
As our Content Officer, you?ll be the engine room of our Marketing, Recruitment and Communications directorate, providing crucial support to bring our campaigns to life. You?ll get stuck into a bit of everything: drafting social media posts, creating website stories, interviewing students, planning and creating campaign content and helping to manage our busy content calendar.
This is a hands-on role where you?ll learn from the best, developing the skills to create high-quality content that makes a real impact. You?ll need to be organised, proactive, and ready to roll up your sleeves to help us meet tight deadlines without compromising on creativity.

Purpose of the post
To provide tactical support to the Content & Creative team in the creation, publication, and management of engaging content. This role is focused on the efficient execution of content plans across a range of digital and print channels, ensuring all output is on-brand and supports the university's strategic objectives.
MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Content creation & publishing: Draft, edit, and publish engaging written and visual content (e.g., social media posts, web stories, newsletter articles, student profiles) for a variety of audiences and channels.
2. Channel management: Assist in the day-to-day management of key social media channels, monitoring engagement, responding to contacts and flagging notable interactions to senior colleagues.
3. Brand compliance: Ensure all content produced adheres to the LSBU Brand Guidelines and other university policies before publication.
4. Asset & template management: Create, use and maintain toolkits and templates for staff and students, ensuring consistency in all externally facing content.
5. Campaign support: Provide logistical and administrative support for the delivery of communications campaigns, including scheduling, asset preparation, and reporting on basic metrics.
6. Stakeholder liaison: Act as a confident first point of contact for basic content queries from internal stakeholders, escalating more complex needs to senior team members.
7. Project support: Assist senior colleagues with the administration of communication project plans, helping to track timeframes and deliverables.
8. Research & evaluation: Support the evaluation of communications activities by gathering data, conducting basic analysis, and preparing summary reports for review.
9. Crisis communications support: Provide administrative support to the team during crisis situations which affect LSBU?s profile and reputation, as directed.
10. Team support: Undertake other ad-hoc duties as required to support the efficient running of the Content & Creative team. Qualifications
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential criteria:
a. Educated to A-level standard or equivalent, or proven relevant experience in a content, marketing, or communications support role through paid work or a relevant degree programme.
b. Some experience in creating and publishing content for social media, websites, or other channels, either professionally or for a university/societal project.
c. Good written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail, spelling, and grammar.
d. A demonstrable interest in and understanding of different content channels, including social media and web.
e. Ability to manage own time, prioritise tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
f. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
g. Competent user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
h. Knowledge of working with, and a willingness to upskill learning where needed, in Canva, CapCut and other editing and templating solutions.
i. Able to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable criteria:
j. Experience social media management tools.
k. An understanding of basic metrics and reporting for social media or web content.
