SDUK's brands include the Nation's favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products.


We are looking to hire a controls engineer for our flagship site in Cornwall where we produce the vast majority of our cheeses - including Cathedral City and Davidstow cheddars. This is a key role to aid in the continued development of the fully automated site.


Utilising strong problem solving, you will be identifying and driving optimisation and refinement opportunities to ensure asset performance and automated systems and control technologies across the site and drive continuous improvement.


The role will be involved with end-of-life activities, including changing out ControlNet to Via Link, being involved in a largescale network replacement project to implement controls throughout the factory, and implementation of CCTV into all lines across the site.


As someone who will be managing change, you will be partnering with various teams to introduce new systems and ways of working, including being involved in multiple large-scale CAPEX projects.


Working with other power, controls and automation engineers, you will be supporting a range of equipment involved in the entire process of making cheese and powdered whey products.


This is a Monday to Friday role, with a callout rota for the team to offer out-of-hour support.

Developing and maintaining cheese and whey production operations to agreed health and safety, quality, engineering, and technical standards Optimising line performance to meet and exceed reliability and efficiency KPIs Carrying out planned maintenance activities Working with OEMs and contractors to ensure integration and compliance with site standards Partnering with other engineering and OT teams, along with forging a close working relationship with the operations team to deliver CI agenda and the reduction of unplanned downtime Write and implement software changes to drive operational performance Contributing to programming and fault-finding activities Analyse line performance data and taking appropriate improvement actions Leading continuous improvement activities Deploying advanced fault-finding techniques for PLC controllers and SCADA systems and delivering mentorship across the engineering team to ensure the fault-finding and interrogation skills

YOU'RE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE...



Able to demonstrate automation controls engineering experience within a similar manufacturing/production environment (FMCG/food industry is ideal, but not a requirement) with strong PLC programming Knowledgeable of electrical equipment, drives and PLC systems, with strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical systems Demonstratable track record of working as part of a team and on own initiative A strong communicator, working with peers and colleagues from other teams within and outside of engineering Experienced with delivering world class manufacturing techniques ugh the application of continuous improvement methodologies and techniques (LEAN, 6-sigma, TPM) Demonstratable experience working within key UK legislative and safety requirements within engineering
