Job Summary




We are currently looking for a motivated and proactive team player to join our thriving team based in Colindale

.





As a Cord Blood Donor Recruitment and Collection Assistant, the successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting potential donors of cord blood. This will require high level communication skills enabling you to interview donors and ascertain their suitability. Once donors are identified, it will be your responsibility to ensure that the retrieval process runs smoothly and to the required standards, collecting the cord blood for clinical banking. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to update records, take account for incoming materials, and organise storage and shipment of donations and samples.



This is an interesting and varied role, requiring flexibility to approach a wide range of tasks. Candidates should have a professional manner in order to deal with donors and patients and should be able to work to high standards. In addition, a BTEC or HNC in a science or relevant subject, or equivalent knowledge of relevant procedures and techniques is essential.

Main duties of the job




In this role you will be:

Being involved in the recruitment of potential donors of cord blood, involving interviews to obtain consent,medical history information and taking blood samples. Exercising good inter-personal skills and maintaining confidentiality of information. Receiving and accounting for incoming materials and organise storage and shipment of donations, samples and documentation to the relevant laboratory Ensuring the efficient functioning of all aspects of cord blood retrieval to the required quality standards. Collecting cord blood for clinical banking and research purposes under supervision at a distance, performing a range of routine tasks Assisting in developing the service in anticipation of future clinical or research needs. Updating donor recruitment and collection records written and/or electronic. Working with blood samples and blood products. Provide varied shift cover across the three Cord Blood collection sites.

About You



Experience and Knowledge



Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Demonstrates experience of organising workload.

Qualifications and Training



BTEC or HNC in a science or relevant subject or 16 modules of NHSBT Foundation degree or equivalent qualifications. OR Equivalent knowledge of a wide range of procedures and techniques demanding intermediate level theoretical knowledge acquired through both formal training and extensive experience in the NHSBT or other healthcare environment. Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development.
