Job Description


The Corporate Communications team is responsible for protecting and promoting Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s reputation. Reporting to the Senior Corporate & Financial Communications Manager, the Corporate & Financial Communications Manager supports the delivery of Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s day-to-day financial communications and works closely with the Head of Corporate Communications to build and manage a corporate plan for Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s and its brands \xe2\x80\x93 Argos, Habitat, Tu, Nectar and Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s Bank.

The objective of the Corporate Communications team is to demonstrate that Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s has the right strategy to deliver for shareholders and corporate stakeholders and that in a competitive environment we are performing well. The team collaborates with other members of the Corporate Affairs team and close working with colleagues in Investor Relations, Strategy and Finance is critical to success.

Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s Corporate Affairs team is committed to delivering excellent digital communications and this role will support the Head of Corporate Communications to maintain and develop our corporate website. The successful candidate will also work with colleagues across the function to implement our social media plans.

The role is suited to someone with strong media relations experience, particularly with financial media and broadcast media. The ability to think creatively and manage multiple projects will also be important given our busy and fast paced working environment. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering company results announcements, will enjoy financial PR and will show a keen interest in digital communications. To be successful in delivering the corporate PR elements of this role, you\'ll have strong relationships with colleagues across the business, including the senior leadership team, will be essential.

More about the role

  • Support the Head of Corporate Communications to deliver media plans for trading statements, interims, prelims and M&A activity
  • Management of key media events that bring to life our strategy for journalists, including but not limited to financial calendar events
  • Responsible for day-to-day management and execution of the corporate media plan for Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s and its brands
  • Leading on sourcing, developing and communicating stories from the business which demonstrate to stakeholders that Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s is delivering on its strategy
  • Support the delivery of the Annual Report, working with internal stakeholders and our external design agency
  • Day-to-day manager of corporate website, acting as counsel to the wider External Communications team on the creation of digital content
  • Work closely with the Head of Corporate Communications to show that we have the best leadership in Retail. This will include writing briefs and preparing our management team for high profile business media activity
  • Be a support to the Media Relations team in managing issues and incoming queries related to financial communications. Draft reactive statements, Q&As, key message documents and communications plans
  • Provide out of hours PR support to the business on weekends on a rota basis (once every couple of months) and provide morning press cuttings to the business, also on a rota basis
More about you
  • Excellent communication skills; written and oral
  • Strong media contacts and media relations experience, particularly with the financial media and broadcast
  • Understanding of social media
  • Attention to detail as well as planning and organisation skills
  • Networking skills \xe2\x80\x93 internally, externally with media, key opinion formers, industry experts
  • Experience of the latest PR techniques and tools, including digital and social media
