We are seeking a skilled and driven Cost Recovery Litigation Specialist to join our legal team. This remote role offers the opportunity to lead on the recovery of legal costs and disbursements following settlement or judgment, while providing expert guidance to the wider litigation team. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with Civil Procedure Rules and staying abreast of developments in costs law.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of cost recovery matters, including disbursements and legal fees
Pursue recovery from defendants and insurers through appropriate legal channels
Draft bills of costs, Replies to Points of Dispute, and prepare cases for assessment
Handle fixed costs disputes including drafting Applications, Part 8 proceedings, and Precedent U documentation
Initiate and manage costs-only proceedings and attend costs hearings as required
Advise fee earners on recovery prospects and litigation strategy
Issue proceedings and manage enforcement actions related to costs disputes
Secure payments on account of costs at the earliest opportunity
Maintain accurate records of recovery outcomes and provide regular updates to the Litigation Manager
Liaise with counsel and deliver internal training on costs law developments
Key Competencies
In-depth knowledge of CPR cost procedures and Pre-Action Protocols
Strong drafting skills including costs budgets, bills, and statements of costs
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and advocacy skills
Calm and professional approach under pressure
Experience in personal injury litigation and cost recovery
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Qualified solicitor, legal executive, or experienced fellow with litigation rights
Proven experience in personal injury litigation and cost recovery
Strong understanding of CPR Parts 8, 23, 44-47 and Practice Direction 45
Ability to assess litigation prospects and manage proceedings independently
Proficiency in drafting and negotiating costs-related documentation
Desirable:
Experience with fixed recoverable costs regimes (fast track, intermediate track)
Familiarity with costs budgeting and costs management conferences
Skilled in case management systems and Microsoft Excel
Collaborative mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities
