The Opportunity

As our Course Leader in Electrical Installation, you will take the lead in managing and developing full time study programmes and part time adult courses at Level 2 and Level 3 within our Engineering department. You will play a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering engaging learning experiences that support student progress, retention and achievement. You will oversee the day to day running of your courses, ensuring high quality delivery, strong student support and alignment with both departmental and college wide aims.

You will be involved in shaping the future of the curriculum by contributing to the design and development of new courses, content and delivery methods. Whether you are working independently or with colleagues, you will help create programmes that are relevant, inspiring and aligned with industry needs. Your ability to adapt to curriculum changes and introduce fresh approaches will support the continued growth and success of the department.

Teaching will be a central part of your role. You will plan and deliver lessons using a range of engaging methods, develop high quality resources and design assessments that stretch and support your learners. You will monitor attendance, retention and success rates, using college systems to track progress and set SMART targets. You will also provide valuable tutorial support and guidance, helping our learners stay focused and achieve their goals. Working closely with the Tutorial Team Leader and Essential Skills Leader, you will ensure all our learners receive the support they need, including full participation in English and Maths.

You also may be asked to support our colleagues who contribute directly to course delivery, such as instructors or support staff. If so, you will be given the training and support you need to manage effectively.

This is a great opportunity to lead and shape our Electrical Installation courses within a supportive and forward-thinking Engineering department.

About You

Ideally, you will be someone with a strong background in Electrical Installation and a clear passion for supporting our learners in developing both their technical abilities and personal growth. You will bring relevant industry experience and up-to-date knowledge of sector standards, enabling you to deliver high-quality teaching and leadership within the curriculum.

We are looking for someone who is organised, forward-thinking and confident in all aspects of course leadership. You will have experience of curriculum review, development and planning strategies, and you will use this knowledge to shape and improve the learning experience. You will be confident in creating effective timetables that support both staff and students, ensuring resources are used efficiently and that learning runs smoothly.

You will have a strong understanding of how to improve attendance, retention, achievement and success rates, and be able to devise targeted strategies to support learners and monitor progress. Your ability to analyse and interpret data will help you identify areas for improvement and respond with practical, learner-centred solutions. You will also use college systems to track progress, set SMART targets and provide regular updates, so confidence in using IT and data management systems is important.

Your teaching practice will draw on a range of methodologies to keep learners engaged and challenged, and you will know how to provide clear and constructive feedback to guide their learning. You will also understand the pastoral needs of your students and offer meaningful support that goes beyond the classroom, working closely with support teams across the college to meet those needs.

Strong communication skills--both written and verbal--are key, along with a positive, collaborative approach to working with others. You will be able to support, and guide associated staff effectively, sharing best practice and helping maintain high standards across the courses you lead. If you are committed to teaching excellence, learner success and collaborative working, this is a great opportunity to use your skills to make a real difference.
