About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for a Course Leader in Visual Arts (Photography) to join the Visual Arts team.

This role is part time, 29.6 hours per week.

The Visual Arts department at Leeds City College is leading the way across the West Yorkshire region by offering a wide provision of industry led courses, including BTEC and Access to HE which specifically prepare the next generation of creatives for University and/or working in the creative industries. We are a team of both industry and specialist academic teachers who ensure that each of our students is provided with an exceptional experience with outcomes to match. We are looking for someone to join our academic team with a specialist background in photography with the ability to deliver on our BTEC courses within our Photography and Graphic Design department.

What You Will Do

Interpret the BTEC specifications and develop a curriculum that is diverse, engaging and industry relevant

Plan, prepare and develop year plans, schemes of work, teaching and learning resources, assessment plans and devise tracking systems

Motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression

Reflect on what works best in teaching and learning in order to meet the diverse needs of our students

Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified units

Co-lead the photography team whilst modelling high standards and outstanding teaching

Ensure performance and expectations are high to give our students the best experience possible

You will support and lead the learning of up to 160 learners with responsibility for implementing strategies to ensure high retention, achievement, success and attendance rates

About You

You will hold a teaching qualification and have experience in a Further Education setting specialising in visual arts subjects at levels 2 and 3

Your photography work experience should be within the photographic/creative industry

Photographic specialist technical skills including; camera, studio, Adobe suite and traditional processing (darkroom skills desirable but not essential)

Demonstrate a commitment for new and innovative ideas around curriculum development

Positively managing students to ensure excellent retention, achievement, success and attendance with our cohort of learners

Knowledge of formative and summative assessment and tracking

Experience of the standardisation, internal and external verification processes

Knowledge of delivering to diverse courses within visual arts, art & design, graphic design and photography

You will build positive relationships with students and staff using restorative practice techniques, be flexible and a positive role model across our campus

Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to provide productive insight into the development of the courses.

You will ensure Quality processes are implemented, high standards maintained and implement necessary measures where standards have not been met

Have a good insight into contemporary industry trends across Photography, Moving image, Graphic Design and the Fashion industries.
