About the role

The Departmental Lecturer in Archaeology/Historic Environment (Cultural Heritage) will have responsibility for the programme of Courses and Workshops in the Cultural Heritage (CWCH), previously known as the programme of Courses and Workshops in the Historic Environment (CWHE). The CWHE has been a longstanding programme of short (one to three-day courses) offered by the Department to professional and academic learners in the fields of Archaeology, Architectural History and Conservation, Planning and Heritage.

They will act as a key member of the subject-area teams led by the Directors of Studies in Archaeology and in Architectural History/Historic Environment, teaching on Archaeology and/or Historic Environment and related subject-area programmes, as required. They will be part of the academic community of the Department and engage in advanced scholarship.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position, available on a fixed-term contract for one year in the first instance.

About you

You will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification, such as a doctorate or equivalent in a relevant subject, with a demonstrable aptitude for teaching the subject at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills required to direct and oversee professional short courses, with sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop new course content and materials;

Familiarity with pedagogic methods in lifelong learning, together with teaching experience in one or more of the following areas will be advantageous:
  • British and/or European Archaeology;
  • British and/or European Architectural History;
  • Planning, Conservation and the Historic Environment;
  • Cultural Heritage, Landscapes and/or Environmental History.
