Cover Supervisor

Mon-Thurs: 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM Friday: 8:15 AM - 3:00 PM

Role Purpose

To provide high-quality classroom cover in the absence of teaching staff and to manage the daily organisation of cover across the school. This dual-role supports pupil progress, staff deployment, and contributes to a safe, inclusive school environment.

Key Accountabilities

Deliver classroom cover lessons (approx. 2/3 of role) Manage daily cover arrangements (approx. 1/3 of role) Mentor and support cover and supply staff Ensure safeguarding, health & safety, and positive behaviour management Contribute to multi-disciplinary collaboration Maintain high professional standards and ongoing development

Classroom Cover Responsibilities

Deliver structured, engaging lessons Maintain clear classroom routines and strong behaviour expectations Create an inclusive environment for pupils with a range of needs Collaborate with HLTAs, therapists, and teaching assistants Support curriculum continuity through resource and lesson planning Attend training, staff meetings, and contribute to school life

Cover Coordination Responsibilities

Schedule and communicate daily cover for all absences Manage cover-related emails, Teams communications, and timetables Work with HR to verify safeguarding checks for supply staff Provide on-site support, briefings, and troubleshooting for cover staff Monitor quality of cover work and report issues to department heads Liaise with HLTAs and support staff for seamless cover transitions

Essential Criteria

Experience working with children and timetabling Excellent organisational and time management skills Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills Confident using Microsoft Teams and web-based platforms Positive and adaptable under pressure Proven classroom and behaviour management skills Ability to build trust and motivate others Flexible, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of pupils and staff
