This role will report directly into the Theatre Director at Crewe. You will work closely with the Crewe Lyceum senior management team, including Venue Marketing Executive, Technical & Buildings Manager, Hospitality General Manager and Theatre Administrator. The posts you will line manage in this role include casual staff, sessional staff, practitioners, volunteers, artists, interns, work placements and young producers.

This post also liaises with the Cultural Economy Team at Cheshire East Council.

This role is matenity cover and will be offered on a fixed term contract.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES




Strategic

Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor the performance of an innovative creative learning and outreach strategy linked to the core programme, aims and objectives of Crewe Lyceum and in reference to the Cultural Strategy Framework of Cheshire East Council. Prepare reports and evaluations of all community and creative learning activities, as required. Participate in and contribute to the development of the Crewe Lyceum business plan. Create and develop sustainable relationships, partnerships, and projects with groups of organisations across the range of communities in the region, in particular the education sector, thereby facilitating ways of making Crewe Lyceum economically, culturally and intellectually accessible whilst at the same time maximising the use of the venue. Research and engage the skills of artists and companies with the expertise to deliver high-quality participatory workshops, education, and outreach work. (Half Term Workshops, Summer Youth Project, Family Fun Days, pre- and post-show talks, backstage tours and other learning opportunities) Ensure educational, creative learning and participatory projects always promote inclusivity and diversity.



Operational


Co-ordinate and manage the administration of weekly groups, including Lyceum Lites, our four youth theatre groups and young ambassadors work experience programme. Event manage creative learning performances and participatory events as required. Represent Crewe Lyceum at industry and local events, nurturing the venue's external partnerships, always creating links with the local community and acting as an advocate for creative learning and education through the arts. In collaboration with the marketing team, assist in maximising the reach of production specific campaigns, designing, and producing educational and creative learning promotional material and activities. Working in liaison with the Venue Marketing Executive, contributing to the delivery of Crewe Lyceum's digital strategy through the update and content management of creative learning-focused social media accounts, taking the creative and editorial lead as appropriate and in line with Company ICT, Safeguarding and Social Media policies. Contribute to Senior Management Team meetings, discussions, and responsibilities.



Producing


Serve as Producer for the Summer Youth Project, leading approximately 90 young participants through the full-scale musical production process, from auditions to final performance, including comprehensive project planning. Produce the National Theatre Connections Festival, working alongside The National Theatre, as well as the Creative Learning Showcase and other youth theatre performances. Facilitate creative learning education and community project meetings, including planning, budgeting, evaluation, and document preparation.



Line Management

Ensure recruitment of creative learning staff and/or engagement of volunteers, freelance and other external partners is carried out in accordance with the Company's Safeguarding and Protection Policy and Cheshire East Council's guidelines. Act as Crewe Lyceum's operational representative on all matters pertaining to the safeguarding of children, young people and/or vulnerable adults, in accordance with the Company's Safeguarding and Protection Policy and Cheshire East Council guidelines. Effectively undertake all management responsibilities of creative learning casual staff, volunteers and freelancers including inductions, rostering, training, and development as applicable. Ensure that objectives, targets, and work performance standards are understood and owned by your direct reports through appropriate communication and participation. Ensure your team is kept up to date with and has access to the latest versions of Company policies, health, and safety and/or other relevant information pertaining to their role.



Financial

Effectively manage and control Crewe Lyceum's creative learning budget, ensuring that expenditure is contained within approved limits. Ensure agreed creative learning income targets are achieved.



Administration

Ensure up to date Company policies, health, and safety, safeguarding and other relevant information is sent to clients and host organisations as required. Adopt a proactive and flexible approach to planning, prioritising, and implementing day to day administrative duties relevant to the job role, including but not limited to drafting and preparing emails, letters, reports, minutes, forms, and procedures, as appropriate. Organise, plan, lead and proactively contribute to education, community and other meetings as required.



Health & Safety


Act as Crewe Lyceum's designated Safeguarding Officer (SO), undertaking all associated responsibilities and ensuring compliance with child protection legislation and the Company's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. Ensure the Creative Learning Department complies with health, safety, licensing, and safeguarding policies at all times. Organise DBS checks as applicable. Support managers in the dissemination, implementation and promotion of Company and local health and safety procedures and best practices. Effectively manage recruitment and on-boarding in collaboration with senior management and the Theatre Administrator, with the aim of always attracting and engaging the best available talent.



Recruitment, Training and Development


Effectively plan and coordinate relevant training, development and learning requirements within the venue's training budget limits. Ensure staffing levels are always appropriate to meet business and service requirements. Effectively manage recruitment and on-boarding in collaboration with senior management and the venue administrator, with the aim of always attracting and engaging the best available talent. Promote sharing of skills and knowledge. Undertake personal training and development relevant to the successful execution of the job role.



Other Responsibilities


Dress in accordance with Company policy and as appropriate for the job role, wearing protective clothing as issued and as instructed. At all times, act as an ambassador for the venue and company.

PERSON SPECIFICATION




Experience


Evidence of personal achievement in effectively developing and project managing creative learning, education, or outreach activity. Experience in successfully managing and developing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, e.g., local authority, suppliers, promoters, and corporate and community partners Proven experience of successful fundraising, project management and delivery including sourcing, researching, collating information and evaluating funding applications. Proven experience in budget control and maintaining accurate financial records.



Skills


A proactive and effective networker and negotiator. At least a good basic level of competency using Outlook, Word, and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in dealing with colleagues, the public, stakeholders, and industry colleagues. The ability to communicate across multiple levels with sensitivity, discretion, and confidentiality. Excellent budget management skills. Excellent organisational and planning skills and the ability to delegate effectively to others. That you are self-motivated and equally able to work independently or as part of a team. The ability to work calmly and effectively in a pressurised work environment.


Knowledge


An in-depth working knowledge of protection and safeguarding legislation, policies, and practice, including DBS. Knowledge of formal and informal education sectors, national arts policies, fundraising infrastructures, and Access issues pertinent to the theatre industry.

Desirable


Education to degree level or similar. Experience in marketing, sales, press, PR, social media content management and an understanding of the role these functions play in creative learning. Experience in successfully recruiting, engaging, and managing arts workers and practitioners. Experience in facilitation and delivery of projects An in-depth knowledge of drama, dance, and musical theatre genres. Health and Safety for Managers, or similar training qualification. Arts Award Assessor qualification and/or experience of delivering Arts Award. Train the Trainer qualification and/or experience of delivering effective in-house training. Full clean driving licence.



Personal


Appointment to the post is subject to DBS clearance and receipt of satisfactory references.
