The Curatorial Assistant will provide essential support for the Curator, with emphasis on collections management and assisting with the organisation of the Museum's display program, along with cleaning and redisplaying the permanent displays. Tasks will include assisting with the collection management, cataloguing, and dealing with public enquiries.
The Role:
Cataloguing objects for the collection onto MODES.
Cleaning, photographing and redisplaying items in the Museum.
Repacking of items from the Museum collection in suitable packaging.
Assist the Curatorwith the Museum's exhibition and display work.
Assist in the Museum's response to enquiries via email, phone and in person.
Should be prepared to talk to the public about the Museum's collections. This could be to any audience and may be in conjunction with the Stadium Tour Guides.
Assist with the development of interpretative content to increase awareness of the Museum collection.
Show a commitment to your own professional development.
Collaborate with other teams, for example Communications & Media, to share the museum's collection with our audience.
Assist with any other collection management and curation tasks as required
The Person:
Educated to degree level with a postgraduate qualification in Museum Studies, or equivalent is desirable.
Experience of working with historic artefacts in museum collections, and an understanding of how to safely handle and care for them.
Experience of Museum cataloguing and collections management databases to recognized standards - SPECTRUM experience of MODES is desirable.
Some practical experience of exhibition work in a museum environment is desirable.
Ability to understand and apply organizational policies and procedures.
Confident interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to work effectively independently or as part of a small team.
Ability to work on own initiative to agreed timescales.
Methodical, organized approach to work and with a strong attention to detail.
Excellent IT and data entry skills would be an advantage.
Very good standard of written and spoken English.
Self-motivated and flexible.
An interest in football and football history would be an advantage.
