Job Description


This exciting role has been created to support career development and to open up opportunities for working in the Curatorial department at Tate Britain.

Tate holds the National Collection of British Art from 1500 to the present, Modern and Contemporary International Art from 1900, and the National Archive of British Art from 1900. The Curatorial Department at Tate Britain is responsible for researching and delivering loan exhibitions, commissioning projects for the contemporary programme, as well as researching and building Tate\'s British Collection and preparing collection displays.

The Curatorial Assistant will gain a clear understanding of museum procedures and processes. By the end of a 20-month contract, they will have had the opportunity to research and contribute to the planning and development of exhibitions and displays and to support discussions about potential acquisitions. These projects will include Tate Britain\'s Art Now programme, and the annual Duveens Commission.

Previous experience of working in a museum or gallery is not a requirement to undertake this role. Our aim is to attract people to join us who might not have thought about working in our sector before or who have not had the opportunity to experience what this might be like. We want to offer this role to those people who would benefit the most from it, both in terms of furthering their personal or professional development and who, in return, would have a new and different perspective to bring to our work.
