Post Title: Curriculum Learning & Progress Assistant (Humanities)
Hours of work: Full Time (37 hours per week) Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)
Salary/Pay Range: NJC 7-11 (22,670-24,163)
Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader for Humanities and Senco
Required From: September 2024
We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic Learning and Progress Assistant to strengthen our fully resourced and dynamic Humanities Department by providing targeted assistance to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working predominantly across Key Stages 3 and 4 and more widely with the SEND and inclusion team, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in nurturing students' academic growth and personal confidence in both History and Geography.
On a day-to-day basis, the Learning & Progress Assistant will be in classrooms alongside subject teachers, offering immediate, hands-on guidance that ensures each learner can access, understand and engage with lesson content. Through working collaboratively with teachers, the role will involve adapting and differentiating schemes of work, teaching materials and assessments so that tasks are appropriately scaffolded and ambitions remain high for every pupil, regardless of need.
In addition to in-lesson support, the successful candidate will plan and deliver focused small-group interventions aimed at closing knowledge gaps and accelerating progress for SEND students. The role will involve monitoring the progress of SEND students within the department and designing interventions and resources to ensure SEND students make progress in line with their peers. The appointed candidate must demonstrate a genuine passion for working with SEND students and uphold our ethos of empowering every learner to reach their full potential and aspirations.
The Humanities department is extremely well resourced and students follow an exciting Geography and History curriculum which builds on the themes of "Global Citizens" and "Our Journey through Time". Our record of outstanding examination results is supplemented by a range of exciting extra-curricular activities which broaden our students' experiences of the world including trips to The Black Country Museum, Dorset and Liverpool; and internationally to Iceland, New York, Washington and Auschwitz.
