Being the Cyber Security Manager
Are you ready to be the driving force behind cyber resilience at KFRS? As our Cyber Security Manager, you'll take the lead in shaping and strengthening our digital defences. You'll spearhead initiatives that enhance our cyber security posture, proactively identifying risks and implementing strategies to protect our people, systems, and data.
In this key position, you will work collaboratively across the organisation, engaging with stakeholders to embed security best practices and promote a culture of resilience. Although the role does not include direct line management responsibilities, you will be expected to coordinate and support IT colleagues in all cyber-related activities -- ensuring that efforts are strategically aligned and prepared to meet future challenges.
You will act as the central point of expertise for cyber security, providing authoritative advice and strategic insight to the Head of IT and the wider Service. Your leadership will be key to maintaining a proactive, unified approach to cyber defence. Developing and maintaining a coordinated, forward-thinking approach to cyber defence, ensuring KFRS remains resilient in the face of emerging threats.
What you'll do
Provide tailored cyber security advice to business teams and change initiatives, ensuring best practices are embedded across KFRS.
Lead incident response and security audits, working with standards like Cyber Essentials.
Drive compliance with cyber security frameworks, including Cyber Essentials and the Cyber Assessment Framework.
Develop and report on metrics to measure cyber security effectiveness to IT leadership and senior stakeholders.
Oversee internal and external security assurance activities, including penetration testing and third-party assessments.
Participate in business continuity exercises, presenting technical insights to non-technical audiences.
Manage cyber security training and awareness programmes using varied approaches for different audiences.
Contribute to cyber-related policies, procedures, and guidance.
Work within Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, using tools like Purview, Sentinel, and Intune.
Manage supplier relationships and contracts relevant to cyber security.
Advise on secure system configuration and administration.
Oversee external suppliers and contractors in your area of responsibility.
What you'll bring
Professional certification (e.g. CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM) or equivalent experience.
Degree in IT, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent experience.
Experience with frameworks like NIST, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials.
Proven background in cyber or IT security roles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead and coordinate across teams.
Experience in incident response and business continuity.
