CSE unit delivers and deploys end-to-end cyber and security capabilities across BT, as platform owners. Our mission is to build the most secure network and services, a key brand differentiator for BT and our other brands, EE, Plusnet and Openreach. We aim to put BT on security \'gartner\' alike global lead.
We are responsible for keeping BT and EE, globally, available during cyber attack, and operating various network and real-time capabilities for attack detection, prevention and analysis. We defend the business, and in support of that, we also deploy new capabilities, ensure those capabilities are operational, have adequate capacity, and maintain their visibility/reach.

What you\'ll be doing

  • Design specialist for e2e cyber capabilities, of a specific set of tool/s and platform/s
  • Design new security capabilities, be it on tools we develop and deploy or the feature enhancements to our existing tools, infrastructure and network security
  • Technical leadership and responsible for own technical platform
  • To review and adjust the cyber capabilities based on analysis and attack behaviour change, ensuring the latest threats are detected and proactively acted on
  • To design for and oversee the deployment of the new cyber protection infrastructure - till operationally live and accepted into service, if required as part own domain
  • Where required, lead on incident responses and Post-incident-Reviews (PIRs) as a subject matter expert; and own resolution and implementation for own domain
  • Proactive capacity management of own platform/domain, acting at least 12 months in advance, to ensure sufficient capacity is available at any time.
  • To ensure that the cyber capabilities designed and deployed have appropriate visibility of cyber events, so OPS can analyse and act on proactively
  • Work as part of the wider team, to drive automation and data mining where possible to link network and information data as such that create one source and own view of our cyber status and capability
  • To proactively identify BT/EE services requiring monitoring/protection strategies, and develop these strategies, working closely with the service owners
  • Lead on a number of complex technical deliverables ensuring work is completed on time and within budget
  • To have clarity of roadmap for own domain and input into wider CSE and security roadmap planning for cyber design and defence
  • To continually develop professional cyber skills and awareness, to always remain ahead of our attackers, and develop the skills of others in the team

  • To own development and implementation of policies and procedures, including operational cyber defence processes.
  • Contribute to and build operational procedures for own domain, ensuring they are in place, maintained and followed as appropriate.
  • Proactively drive forward continuous improvement within the team
  • Provide effective technology coaching and mentoring both inside and outside the team.
  • To be/become a recognised expert in at least one Cyber technology
  • Where required to provide 2nd and 3rd line support to maintain service availability during cyber attack
  • The opportunity for 24/7 on-call (if needed and able to support). We are currently growing the team, and in the transition stage, there is opportunity for on-call, if desired.
You\'ll have the following skills and experience

Essential Skills:
  • Significant experience of security engineering and delivery with a broad understanding IT and network services
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to drive forward key security objectives
  • SIEM technology
  • Strong communication skills including presentation and documentation writing (to both technical and business audiences)
  • An aptitude for autonomous learning as required by the demands of the business
  • Demonstrable understanding of network technologies and IP Protocols
  • Proven problem-solving abilities
  • Assertiveness, and the ability to drive through change
  • Excellent team working skills including the ability to work effectively within a geographically disparate team
  • Experience working within an IT support environment, particularly dealing with incident handling and change management.
Advantageous:
  • Knowledge of policy frameworks and understanding of policies, procedures, guideline structure
  • Previous working experience in a cyber security role
  • Linux and Windows Administration
  • Virtualisation technology, including containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Linux etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience of cloud services (public or private), e.g. AWS, Azure, Openstack etc.
  • Privileged Access Management
  • Host based security products (threat detection, micro segmentation)
  • Vulnerability and Compliance Management
  • Experience working within an ITIL environment, in particular change and incident management
Experience
  • Qualified to be and possibly member of a professional engineering/science institution and working towards chartered engineer accreditation.
  • Relevant professional experience.
