We are one of the few remaining traditional farmhouse cheddar makers, producing three quarters of the UK volume. Traditional West Country Farmhouse Cheddar is made to methods and recipes that date back many hundreds of years. We use the highest quality milk, sourced from local, free-range dairy herds that graze the lush pastures of the surrounding countryside and the process is performed almost exclusively by hand.
Due to increased workload we currently have a vacancy for a full time Dairy Operative working 42.5 hrs January to June and 45 hrs July to December a week Monday to Friday.
To operate and monitor production and/or dairy equipment as per the company's standard operating procedures (SOP's) to achieve product that is within internal and external specifications and within critical control points (CCP's).
Experience of working in a food manufacturing/ dairy environment
Contributing to improvements in quality and performance targets
Food Hygiene - Level 2. Training will be given if not already held
Able to work in a role that has physical demands
Basic numeracy and literacy to secondary education level
Understanding of English language
Basic computer skills

This involves producing milk based products daily. To process, pack, handle and hold stock of any cheese produced on site specifically in the Dairy. To use equipment associated with the production of cheese including Pasteuriser, Vats, Coolers and Separators and to handle chemicals on a routine basis, understand their hazards and company requirements for COSHH.
The role is physically demanding and therefore candidates must be able to cope with these demands.
Candidates should be able to work in an effective, efficient and hygienic manner to support the company's hygiene requirements and to hold a basic food hygiene certificate as a minimum standard. Previous experience working in a food manufacturing environment is preferred but not essential as full training will be given.
