The starting salary is 38,926, which includes allowances totalling 2,928.


The salary is broken down as 35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 38,523 Plus, a location allowance of 1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000.

Learning & Development (L&D) Performance & Assurance team is a new function within the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) that has been created to deliver analytical support to enable the organisation to manage its L&D performance. Through the New Met for London plan the team will look to deliver data-driven decision making to enable more trust, less crime and high standards. This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods and technology, as a strategic asset.


The Learning & Development Command function covers the following areas:

Foundation academy (new recruits) analytical support, Crime Academy (investigative) analytical support, Safety Academy (PPST and ELS) analytical support, Leadership Academy (FLLP, MLLP and SLP) analytical support, Driving School (ERPT etc.) academy analytical support.

The role:




As a Data Analyst in the L&D Performance & Assurance team, you will work with a range of stakeholders (ranks of Superintendent and above and police staff equivalents) and guided and lead by your Performance Analyst (Band C) to deliver evidence based, high quality, and insightful analysis to support the delivery of MPS objectives. It includes using analytical findings to spot trends, forecast future implications and highlight areas of good or poor performance. You'll look to enable and support data-driven decision making across the MPS.


Data Analysts will help to embed approaches and frameworks that underpin and enable the effective delivery of a Learning & Development Command, which will recognise emerging risks, steer organisational direction, inform decision making at all levels and provide data assurance.

Key Role Responsibilities:




You will be responsible for:

Undertaking analysis; this will include analysing diverse datasets to make best use of the evidence base and produce high quality analytical products. This may include: Ensuring datasets are used consistently across Learning & Development Command to deliver accurate and reliable analysis and uphold credibility across the organisation, Understanding and manipulating data using appropriate systems and languages including but not exclusive Structured Query Language (SQL), Excel, MPS systems and PowerBI. Providing analysis to support and enable the discussion of policing issues and offer improvement recommendations, Using information and a range of techniques to review the success of day-to-day Policing activity. Ability to present effectively and own regular meetings with key stakeholders to assess and identify issues to enable data-driven decisions, Produce high quality analytical products that communicate findings in a meaningful way for the intended customer using a range of presentational styles, Building and maintaining effective internal relationships with staff and external stakeholders to ensure we understand their needs and deliver the right products, Embracing change and striving to deliver continuous improvement, Support the development of analytical processes, tools and techniques to ensure the production of insightful products that enable decision making, learning and provide assurance, Supporting the approach to evidence-based policing, which will help to shape how policing in London should operate in the future, Ability to balance and manage competing priorities, Undertake ad hoc reporting.

You may be based at either NSY, Hendon or Marlowe House

Successful candidates will be expected to remain in their initial role for 2 years before applying for any other internal roles. The expectation is you will travel into the office 3 times per week.

Essential For The Role

Essential Criteria:



Education/Experience:



GSCE level or equivalent qualification in both Mathematics (Grade 6 (B) is required for this role) and English (Grade 5 (C) is required for this role). Computer literacy, particularly to have skills in Office 365 Excel at Intermediate level, PowerPoint, Word and relevant presentational skills. We would require applicants to have a basic knowledge of SQL and willingness to learn and develop further in this.

Excellent communication skills, including presentation skills both verbal and written. Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and peers internally and externally. Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Welcoming and confident personality. Flexible approach to work with the ability to work unsupervised and independently. Proven stakeholder management with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues at all levels of the organisation, with an inclusive approach to raising understanding of data performance. Be self-motivated and have the willingness to learn and develop in the role.

Desirable Skills:



Desirable Criteria (Training will be provided where required):



Graduate/professional qualification or worked experience in a statistical, analytical, social science, business management or related discipline. Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You are able to demonstrate a good knowledge of how to manage, analyse and visualise large datasets (ideally using SQL, Excel, Tableau and PowerBi).
