Principal Engineer (Data & Analytics for Google Cloud)
SALARY: up to \xc2\xa3139,320, negotiable for the right candidate
LOCATION: London (can also be based from Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh)
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days per week) in an office site

Where we enhance our offering to enable the exploitation of data and analytics in the public cloud. This will mean leveraging Google Cloud Platform capabilities, products and services but also involve operating across our multi-cloud environments to ensure the entire breadth of our data user community are being served.

What you\'ll do

This is a leadership role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise with a great passion for coaching and developing people in a "player-coach" model.

  • you\'ll be \'hands-on\' and able to lead from the front, setting an example of behaviours and practices for the team members while carrying out development activity
  • you\'ll shape tooling, architecture and infrastructure decisions related to Data and Analytics on the Cloud
  • you\'ll work with architectural, business and other engineering leads to shape, design and engineer solutions
  • you\'ll offer leadership around new ways of engineering, acting as a change agent and fostering a test and learn approach
  • you\'ll be an advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within your teams, identifying and supporting colleagues in the resolution of impediments and issues

Core skills and experience we\'re looking for .
  • Proficiency in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines, as well as experience with big data processing tools like Apache Spark / Dataproc and Dataflow.
  • Knowledge of various data storage options (e.g., relational databases, NoSQL, data lakes) and hands-on experience with managing and optimizing databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, Bigtable.
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and techniques, including ETL / ELT processes and real-time data streaming (e.g., using Apache Kafka or Pub/Sub).
  • Strong understanding of machine learning, data analytics, data visualisation, and business intelligence tools (e.g., Vertex AI, Looker, Power BI, Tableau) to help organizations derive insights from their data.
  • Understanding of GCP services, architectures, and best practices, with experience in designing and implementing scalable and cost-effective solutions. Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer) are a plus.
  • You\'ll be comfortable with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CI/CD using Jenkins and GitHub Actions, as well as have a proficient understanding of Cloud Networking (e.g. VPCs) and Cloud Security
