Who are the team?

This vacancy is in the Data Migrations Programme, within the Data and Machine Learning Platform team. Our purpose is to create and deliver a new data analytics platform within Google Cloud and migrate existing workloads from on-prem into that new platform.

Who are we looking for?

We\'re seeking to recruit a strong DevOps Lead Engineer to support our continued journey onto the Cloud. This is a key time in our transformation, and we need people who enjoy shaping the direction and success of a team whilst leading on delivering some initiatives.

This role will be pivotal in transforming legacy systems into cloud native distributed applications. The role gives opportunities to drive the technical leadership and direction of DevOps engineering that underpins the cloud journey. You\'ll also be involved in Site Reliability engineering. Our focus is on building and running large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems and providing mentorship to other teams, so they can be self-sufficient on public cloud.

You\'ll embrace complex challenges, while using your expertise in coding, build/release pipelines, simplifying complexity, forensic analysis and various system design strategies to tackle those challenges.

About you

We believe that people don\'t always fit neatly into roles, and we value everyone\'s individual skills, experience, and knowledge - it\'s what makes you unique! In order to secure an interview for this role, you\'ll need to demonstrate experience the following as a minimum:

Very strong DevOps background coupled with demonstrable leadership experience

Expertise in tools like Jenkins, Spinnaker, Nexus, and Git

Kubernetes

Experience programming in at least two (but not all!) of the following languages: Java, Groovy, Scala, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, PowerShell or Bash/Shell

Google Cloud technologies such as BigQuery, Data Proc, Data Catalog, Data Plex, Cloud Composer

Provisioning components and services such as Helm Templates

Experience included in the below would also be highly desirable:

CI/CD Automation for Build & Release (Important to have experience in 1 or more tooling solutions)

Automated Unit/Integration/Load/Performance Testing

Observability, Logging, Monitoring & Alerting

Container Image Management & Security

Networking

API Gateway Management

IAM - Identity & Access Management

Cloud Security

Location: Manchester
Salary: \xc2\xa385,255-\xc2\xa3100,300 per annum
