Data And Information Technical Specialist

England, United Kingdom

Job Description

Are you someone who is passionate about creating, maintaining, manipulating, and analysing data? If you are, then these exciting new roles within the Natural Capital and Ecosystems Assessment (NCEA) programme are not to be missed. As part of this programme we are designing, implementing and analysing the data from new monitoring networks to allow us to better assess and understand the state of our water environment at a national scale.

These two roles will focus on building tools and processes that turn a range of monitoring data into useable national scale assessments of the environment. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your data management expertise and develop our approach for NCEA outputs and products.

Key tasks may include:

  • Building a suite of tools that receive and process monitoring data from a variety of sources and historical records, creating the data that will underpin future assessment and analysis work
  • Piloting the use of the assessment tools and products to give further confidence in our outputs
  • Ensuring work can be handed over to other users by building guidance, support, and automated features.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and help provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The two posts will sit within the Strategic Assessment & Reporting (SAR) and Strategic Evidence Design & Assessment (SEDA) teams (one post in each team) which are part of the Chief Scientist\'s Group in our national Environment & Business Directorate. SAR and SEDA are friendly and supportive teams of data and information specialists, with a great reputation for delivering key information to drive the organisation\'s water environment activities.

Experience/skills required

The posts are a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to utilise and develop their data management and analysis skills and apply them to a national-scale activity. You should:
  • Enjoy working with data and matching the needs of the customer to the analysis you do
  • Be able to work well as part of a dispersed team
  • Deliver your work with a focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Have evidence of customer focus and good organising skills
  • Be able to use tools such as Excel, ArcGIS desktop and Power BI to make your work more efficient
  • Have experience of developing automated data integration processes in an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) application such as SAFE FME desktop
  • Be familiar with Environment Agency monitoring data, although this is not a prerequisite.
Contact and additional information

These posts can be based at any of our offices across England. There is good opportunity for blended home and office working. Occasional travel for meetings may be required.

We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills and views. We embrace diversity and promote an inclusive culture. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
