Job objectives and responsibilities







The Data and Insights Manager in retail security is responsible for leveraging data to enhance loss prevention strategies, improve operational efficiency, and support decision-making across the retail security function. This role involves collecting, analysing, and interpreting data related to security incidents, shrinkage, fraud, and store compliance to provide actionable insights. The manager collaborates closely with security teams, retail operations, IT, and analytics stakeholders to develop data-driven strategies that mitigate risk and improve overall security performance.




Key Responsibilities:







Oversee the collection, integrity, and quality of security-related data.

Establish data governance processes to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.

Analyse data from various sources (CCTV, incident logs, EAS systems, POS data, audit reports).

Develop dashboards and regular reports highlighting security performance, trends, and risk indicators.

Provide actionable insights to reduce shrinkage, theft, and fraud.

Identify patterns and root causes of losses or security breaches.

Recommend process improvements and preventive strategies based on data.

Work with IT and vendors to develop or enhance analytics tools, reporting systems, and incident management platforms.

Partner with field security teams, store managers, compliance, and senior leadership.

Present findings and strategies in a clear, impactful manner.




Main duties







Working as part of the wider contract team, supporting the whole contract by having a good understanding of all applications, technology and data critical to its function.

Develop and understand the end-to-end data architecture critical for Management Information across a broad range of application sources.

Assist with the development and maintenance of quality data within application databases.

Develop and maintain a suite of Power BI reports and dashboards, offering a comprehensive view of performance and developing actionable insights through accurate and timely reporting.

Liaise with operational teams to develop and advise on business processes to ensure accuracy and quality of data.

Support the development and implementation of an integrated approach to dashboard performance reporting as part of ongoing efficiency reviews.

Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Power BI within the contract.

To provide cover for the Technical team on other areas of the function coordinating with various essential stakeholders as required.

Undertaking other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation as required by your line manager.

Ensure processing standards are high and errors minimised

Ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation and Company and Client quality standards

Identify security intelligence & information sources networks with public, law enforcement & government agencies, maintaining a close working partnership

Assess, define and lead intelligence partnerships to create value for the client in the long term. E.g. Police, Government agencies, other retailers and third-party networks

Work closely with the wider internal intelligence network to ensure we leverage our resources in support of the client

Complete ad-hoc projects as designated by the retail management team, the client, or Head of Sector - Retail on time and to a high standard of quality




Person Specification







Experience in Power BI administration.

Experience of reporting and data manipulation via Power BI, Power Query, etc.

Knowledge and experience of using data visualization tools.

Excellent report-writing and analytical skills with sharp attention to detail


Computer literate with a variety of software, including Microsoft Office and bespoke software

Ability to build and maintain relationships with a strong teamwork ethic

Good educational background and a solid command of written and spoken English

Experience of working within a demanding fast-paced environment

Strong communication and customer service skills

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel

Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions

Good communication skills, verbal and written

Experience of team working

Reliable, flexible and discreet

Experience of working in a controlled environment

Solid organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and achieve tight deadlines

Ability to accurately follow detailed processes

Desirable Skills and Experience




Knowledge of the retail market and/or experience of working within law enforcement

Relevant security industry experience - ability to demonstrate an understanding of SOC requirements and processes

Experienced in achieving SLAs, identifying gaps against standards, and implementing improvement solutions

Previous achievement of performance targets and driving performance through utilising metrics
