Job Overview

As a self-employed Second Man / Trainee Engineer, you'll assist Lead Engineers with structured cabling installations, learning the trade while contributing to high-quality project delivery. You'll gain hands-on experience with copper and fibre cabling, containment systems, and cable testing, while developing the skills needed to progress into a Lead Engineer role.

We are looking to grow our business with self-employed Data Engineers (Structured Cabling) and Apprentices joining our expanding team. In these roles, you will take the lead or support in installing copper and fibre cabling, containment, termination, testing, labelling and documentation for structured cabling systems and related technologies (such as Wi-Fi Access Points). You will primarily work in pairs and as a part of a wider team based in and around London and the South East.

Key Responsibilities

Support Lead Engineers with installation, termination, and testing of Cat6 and fibre optic cabling. Assist with containment installation (cable trays, trunking, conduit). Carry tools, materials, and equipment, ensuring efficient workflow on-site. Learn to conduct fault finding and basic troubleshooting. Follow health & safety procedures and contribute to toolbox talks. Maintain professionalism and customer service when working on client sites.

Qualifications & Experience

Some experience in electrical, telecoms, or construction trades preferred (but not essential). Willingness to learn structured cabling installation. ECS card or equivalent certification desirable. Full UK driving license and own transport preferred. Self-employed status with ability to invoice. Asbestos Awareness certification.
