As we continue to evolve our data strategy, we have a new opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team in our Cambridge Head Office. It requires a team player who can work with other engineers in the company, analysts and end users to create solutions which integrate with our products. We are looking for a proactive person who likes to own solutions and use technology to make an impact on business. We have hybrid working and you will be able to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

In this role you will:

Inspire best practice for data products and services within your teams.

Build data engineering capability by providing technical leadership and career development for the community.

Work with colleagues to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services including developing a new Enterprise Data Platform.

Roles & responsibilities

Work with other Digital team members to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services

Ensure that data is managed and analysed in a secure, efficient and well-governed manner

Implement and optimise data pipelines, data modelling, and data availability to speed up time-to-production of various initiatives and business needs.

Ensure quality of delivery as well as in depth understanding of business requirements

Work closely with data architects, software engineers, and other stakeholders to build integrated, high performing solutions

Demonstrate thought leadership in the function, constantly improving and evolving the performance

Apply pragmatism and innovative thinking to make data-driven decisions which add value. Provide progress and feedback to the business and within technology on delivery and technical compromise

Work collaboratively with Data and Analytics team and the wider Abcam Digital team to address issues with software and integration delivery.

Participate and contribute to the Enterprise Data Platform.

Qualifications

You have a BSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related subject and have significant technical experience. You have experience working with a modern cloud data stack and integration of in-house and vendor-based components of the stack. You will be capable of designing, implementing and operating end-to-end data pipelines, excellent knowledge of Data Warehouse and Enterprise Data Platform Technology along with hand-on experience of SQL.

As we move towards a more cloud based environment, you will have dealt with AWS (possibly with GCP) along with professional experience with modern warehouses, Big Data and Analytics tools. Your track record of project delivery will be enhanced by your experience of delivering digital transformation initiatives and ability to influence and adapt to change.

Along with experience in data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) and your strong communication skills, you will be able to think creatively about how to solve issues. You will preferably have eCommerce experience and able to use your strong Agile methodologies.
