Data Engineer

Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires a Data Engineer to be based in their client\xe2\x80\x99s office in London, UK.

This is a hybrid role. You can work remotely in the UK and attend the London office 1-2 days per week.

This is a 6 month temporary contract to start ASAP

Day rate: Competitive Market rate

Key Responsibilities

  • This role will support traders and analysts by providing data gathering and manipulation tools, and developing models to facilitate supply/demand and price forecasting.
  • This will be a fast-paced and dynamic environment where needs will be changing on a frequent basis
  • The ideal candidates will have a flexible mindset and a strong track record working within commodity trading.
  • This role will be an application developer tasked to deliver tools and applications for use directly on the trading desk.
  • It will involve developing tools directly on top of and within an Azure cloud platform.
  • The role is part of a small team so there is an expectation that it will involve designing, building, testing and releasing small applications and data handling tools end-to-end, independently
Key Requirements

Essential Skills
  • 5-7 years experience designing, developing, and maintaining front end applications with C# and .NET, AND 3-5 years with either Python or C++. Candidates with significant experience with all 3 languages would stand out
  • Hands-on time series data experience in SQL and Python including demonstratable experience in handling large datasets
  • Statistical analysis background from either academia or in practice including experience in building predictive modelling frameworks, and knowledge/application of machine learning techniques in that context
  • Has built low latency solutions for data acquisition and/or trading
  • Has created proprietary code libraries (with documentation) to be used by other developers
  • Uses version control and manages their code base appropriately
  • Has both supported their own solutions post go-live and offloaded support to a third-party
  • Hands-on experience developing scalable cloud-native applications in the Azure stack
Desirable Skills
  • 2+ Years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a trading related environment (energy & commodities trading or banking)
  • Power & Emissions industry specific experience
  • Knowledge of specific visualisation Tools (Spotfire etc)
  • Knowledge of Excel/VBA
  • Experience building visualizations and user interface linking large quantities of price and fundamental information
  • Has used other Cloud offerings/Serverless computing (AWS Lambda/AZURE Functions etc)

  • Uses best practice development techniques but can change approach according to conflicting timelines/risks involved
  • Comfortable talking to trading business users and can translate business needs into tangible IT deliverables
  • Keeps up-to-date knowledge with recent IT software developments (open source and cloud in particular)
  • Uses initiative and owns end-to-end solution delivery
  • Brings ideas to the table, is inquisitive and excited by new technology
  • Proactively communicates and shares understanding and experience within a team
  • Used to working in a flexible, independent manner on a mixture of small unstructured and large structured items
