The Role

We're looking for a

Data Event Engineer

to join our Bradford-based team. This role sits at the heart of our digital transformation journey, turning raw customer and order data into

actionable events

that drive engagement, retention, and sales.

You'll be working with

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

,

BigQuery

,

Python

, and

R

to manipulate and pipeline data into business-critical outputs such as:

Abandoned cart reminders

Personalised order reminders & recommendations

Targeted offers and promotions

Identifying customer buying habits & patterns

Flagging potential churn or dormant customers

Highlighting accounts that need management attention

Monitoring engagement with banners and content across external systems

Your work will directly influence how we

retain existing customers

re-engage lapsed ones

create intelligent triggers

for personalised customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain

data pipelines

from customer and order datasets using GCP and BigQuery. Build algorithms and workflows for

customer segmentation, recommendations, and event triggers

. Apply statistical and machine learning methods (in

Python and R

) for customer behaviour analysis. Implement

monitoring and reporting metrics

for engagement with banners, campaigns, and content. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure

data outputs drive measurable business impact

. Continuously improve pipelines for

scalability, accuracy, and efficiency

.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We're looking for someone with a

blend of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and commercial awareness

. The ideal candidate will bring experience in:

Technical Skills

Strong proficiency in

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

, especially

BigQuery

. Programming experience in

Python

and

R

for data manipulation, analytics, and automation. Hands-on experience with

ETL pipelines

, data modelling, and event-driven architectures. Knowledge of

SQL

for querying and transforming structured data. Familiarity with

monitoring tools

, dashboards, or BI platforms (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or similar).

Experience

Proven track record of working with

large customer and transaction datasets

. Experience in designing

data workflows for marketing, engagement, or e-commerce applications

. Understanding of

customer lifecycle management

(churn, upsell, retention strategies). Exposure to

recommendation systems, predictive analytics, or segmentation modelling

. Prior work in

retail, wholesale, foodservice, or e-commerce industries

(desirable but not essential).

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset. Ability to translate complex data into

business-focused insights and actions

. Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Curious, adaptable, and eager to experiment with new tools and approaches.
