Evidence based decision making is critical for the University, and we are looking for the right person to join our team. If you are skilled and motivated with experience of designing, implementing and validating analytical reporting solutions and visualisations you could be just the person to join our Data and Development Team at the University of Winchester.
The University uses a number of systems which deal with student records, finance, placements, recruitment, learner analytics, estate management and timetabling to name a few. These are delivered using a range of technologies including on-premise Microsoft SQL Server and Cloud/SAAS based systems which are central to the operation of the University. Leveraging this data to inform strategic decision making is critical to efficient operation of the University and a core component of the University Corporate plan and supporting strategies.
The successful candidate will work with the Head of Data and Development and the Head of Data and Insights plus others to design, implement and maintain the optimal architecture needed to deliver the data intelligence platform for the University. This work will include establishing data pipelines, growing and managing our data lake, establishing key datasets, validating the data available for reporting and creating high-level dashboards for publishing to members of the University. As well as continuing to review existing flows and platforms following up-stream updates to the "source of truth" datasets.
The role will also contribute to Data and Development team initiatives for improving quality of data within the systems, investigating data quality issues, supporting the development and embedment of a good data culture across the University and working with other stakeholders across the University to document the use of data both within systems and in business processes. The role will also be involved in large transformational projects where there is any data strands.
The candidate will have good analytical skills, statistical awareness and good attention to detail and will be capable of interpreting and writing code written in MDX, DAX, SQL and .Net.
Specific aspects of the role include: Develop interactive dashboards and reports
Supporting the implementation of new solutions, ensuring that the use of data is managed correctly and securely
Understanding the Strategic priorities and directions of the University Executive Team and University Leadership Team to prioritise strategic requirements.
Working with the functional business owners to ensure a strong understanding of their data intelligence requirements
Support the Head Data and Development and Head of Data and Insights to continue to build data intelligence across the University
Promote the data governance culture across the University
Establish validated datasets for reporting and integrations
Support the Digital Skills team to help outline and create basic "data capability" skills for University staff and students
You will have the ability to work to deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
An ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external parties is essential as is a keen awareness of the need for documentation and change management.
