Office base is either Glasgow or London. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

Are you a data analyst with a keen interest in metadata and data management or a data manager with a data analytics mind?





Do you want to work in a team embedded in all aspects of content distribution, content analytics and metadata management?





The Content Metadata team is responsible for creating and managing the metadata that powers the BBC throughout its lifecycle; from commissioning, to digital experiences, audience analytics and back, Content Metadata is at the heart of our mission to provide value to our audiences





This means asking ourselves some big questions: what does high quality metadata look like? How can we measure the impact on our audiences? And how can metadata help us inform, entertain and educate audiences across the UK and beyond?





To help us achieve this, we are looking for a keen data professional to join our team and support the delivery of great reports and visualisations to profile and illustrate our metadata.





We are a hybrid co-located team in Glasgow and London working closely with a variety of other data disciplines (data science, data analytics, data engineering, data governance) as well as engineering and editorial teams.

Interview Process

Shortlisted candidates are expected to complete an assignment which will be reviewed during the technical interview.





Two stage interview:


90 minute technical interview with members of the Content Metadata Quality team for value-based questions and review of the assignment

Max 45 minute with members of the wider Content Metadata team

Main Responsibilities

Some examples of the work you may be asked to tackle:


Carry out metadata governance and data quality measurement activities Carry out data investigations to understand the root cause of quality issues Create dashboards and data visualisation products Support the creation of ad-hoc reports for stakeholders

RDF Relational databases (e.g. Postgres) Graph databases (e.g. Neptune) Document stores AWS products (Lambda, EC2, RDS, S3) Tableau and Tableau Prep

Are you the right candidate

Essential Skills


Significant data and metadata management experience, ideally in media and entertainment Knowledge of data modelling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases Hands-on experience with SQL Hands-on experience with Tableau or similar tools (e.g. PowerBI) Experience of working collaboratively across a diverse set of stakeholders Collaborative, and understanding. Able to work as part of a team Excellent written and verbal communication skills




Desirable


Experience with Python or R Experience with AWS or other cloud services Experience with RDF and Turtle Experience of working with Graph Database (Neptune or similar) and SPARQL Experience of working with document databases (MongoDb or similar) Some familiarity with monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery of data systems and knowledge in different programming or scripting languages. Experience with agile or other rapid application development methods Broadcast, production, start-up or media experience A mix of public sector and commercial experience Experience working in media and/or publishing industries Qualification in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, information management, library science or other technical discipline, or equivalent experience
