Are you someone with experience in data processing and modelling, looking for an opportunity to contribute to sustainability outcomes at a global level? Future Earth Lab is partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to carry out analysis designed to inform sustainable policy decisions at a global scale. We are seeking an expert to join the project team with experience in systems dynamic modelling, in particular with Vensim.

Location:

UK based, remote, with occasional in person meetings.

Must have the right to work in the UK

Duration: Full time for

6 months, based on project duration

About the project:



Future Earth Lab is partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to carry out analysis designed to inform sustainable policy decisions at a global scale.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) works to shift industry norms and practices towards sustainability, including through its InTex (Innovative Business Practices and Economic Models in the Textile Value Chain) project, funded by the European Union. Under this project, UNEP is partnering with Future Earth Lab to carry out an evaluation of different potential pathways of the textile value chain towards sustainability and circularity, exploring the likely environmental, social, and economic outcomes at global level from these different approaches. The project duration is 6 months, and will be delivered by a team of experts from a range of disciplines.

About the role:



We are seeking a data processing and modelling expert to drive the development and architecture of a database of relevant data sources for this research project, and to support the build of a system dynamic model for analysis in collaboration with other experts. Other members of the team will bring industry knowledge, system and modelling knowledge, IT capacity, sustainability and impact quantification expertise, data management and processing expertise, documentation capacity, and key stakeholder knowledge and connections. Data sources will be selected and gathered from a range of identified sources and partners, and model design will be validated by a range of identified external experts.

Desired expertise for the role:



Deep experience with system modelling, including: Experience using software such as Vensim to map and analyse detailed systems Experience using causal loop diagrams and stock and flow analysis to carry out analysis, including a detailed understanding of relevant equations to carry out analysis Experience with leveraging a range of datasets, including through excel/CSV and databases, into analytical models Experience with running scenarios within relevant models, including comparative analysis across scenarios, Monte Carlo simulations, and other model evaluation methods. Experience documenting model design and findings in project documentation and report formats Data management and processing capacity, including: Demonstrated experience with data processing, data cleaning and data quality control Experience with managing documentation of metadata, data licence management and documentation of data processes Experience with database management and database architecture, including use of SQL Useful additional capacity: Some knowledge of python script, particularly for database management or modelling purposes Some knowledge of sustainability
