This is a rather unique opportunity for an experienced and entrepreneurial data and privacy professional who wants to work on some of today\'s toughest legal challenges and cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced and fun environment.

Let us tell you a little more about the opportunity - Reporting to Senior VP & General Counsel for Ethics & Compliance you will work closely with wide variety of stakeholders including Corporate HQ, the General Counsel for Business Information Services, key members of the Human Resources team, and our global Privacy Champions across each of the Smiths Divisions.

This position is responsible for working with Group HQ and the Divisions to embed Smiths GDPR programme; to monitor changes to privacy law which may impact Smiths; to draft and roll out relevant policies, training and awareness, standard operating procedures, and guideline documents.

This opportunity would be ideally suited to someone who is ready for an opportunity to use their detailed knowledge and vast amount of experience to create a new legacy for how we manage our legal and moral responsibilities to our data and privacy compliance requirements moving forward.

The successful candidate will need to have in-depth experience in this field of law and be able to design, communication and implement complex and evolving GDPR frameworks. Previous experience of managing data protection compliance programmes would also be highly desirable given the scope within this position. Not to mention the importance of advising senior and/or executive level stakeholders, and external stakeholders around data protection questions, risks, and issues.

It is also important to note, you\'ll be joining a team of compliance experts, keen to support you in a role that will offer great variety and exposure to all functions across the Group on a global basis. Plus, you will have access to a wide variety of support within a receptive, highly visible, open and close-knit team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring compliance of key functions across the Group with our GDPR framework.
  • Supporting the Privacy Champions for Smiths Divisions and key Functions
  • Supporting Smiths Group Legal with contract issues and conducting due diligence on third party processors (particlarly for international data transfers ).
  • Being the subject matter expert for, and providing appropriate guidance in relation to, all data protection matters relevant to Group, including in relation to: (i) the Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default aspect of the Group\'s digital initiatives, (ii) high risk Privacy Impact Assessments, and (iii) the management of subject access requests and other data subject rights.
  • Managing the data breach incident process and liaision as required with the Group\'s Information Security Team.
  • Managing of the PIA and Data Inventory process providing support to relevant stakeholders, as required, on queries relating to completion.
  • Acting as the contact point for supervisory authorities on data protection issues, including where applicable, when notification is required as a result of data security breaches.

The Individual
  • Legal qualification and significant post qualification experience in data protection / privacy OR CIPP accredited (or equivalent).
  • Ability to assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately, as well as thrive in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of the GDPR or a sound understanding of the privacy landscape within a global organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems by creating simple, repeatable, and actionable solutions.
  • Expert communication, presentation, negotiation, and people skills.
  • Delivered privacy related programs involving (but not limited to); data mapping, inventory management, privacy assessments, data retention and purging of information.
  • Experience of projects and implementing solutions that identify and reduce the risk of personal identifiable information (PII) held within unstructured environments (e.g., SharePoint, email, file servers etc)
  • Very strong visualization and reporting skills.
  • Creation of policies.
  • Must be fluent in English.
