Job Description

We have a unique opportunity to join Sokin as our Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead our global privacy and data protection strategy. This role will provide you the opportunity to scale a privacy-first programme for a rapidly growing global fintech in the payments space and shape the company's regulatory strategy as we innovate and expand.


You will play a key role in shaping and advancing that strategy, including strengthening and evolving a comprehensive data governance framework. You will also drive the consistent adoption of group-wide policies and controls across the business, fostering a culture of accountability and privacy awareness.


Working closely with legal, compliance, technology, and product teams, you'll ensure our practices meet global data protection standards. This includes UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and other relevant international privacy laws. In this role, you'll provide both strategic and practical guidance on privacy, data protection, and security matters across the business, as well as lead and manage regulatory interactions, including building and maintaining constructive relationships with data protection authorities globally.

Key Responsibilities



Lead the company's global privacy and data protection programme across key jurisdictions including the UK, EU, USA, Canada, UAE, Australia, Singapore, and India, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Act as the primary point of contact for data protection authorities and internal stakeholders, managing regulatory engagement and ensuring appropriate oversight of inquiries, audits, and incident responses. Advise senior leadership and cross-functional teams on product launches, new market entry, and other data-driven initiatives that shape strategic decision-making. Oversee and continuously improve privacy risk assessments, audits, and compliance reporting, ensuring controls remain effective and proportionate as the business scales. Maintain data handling policies, privacy notices, vendor due diligence processes, and cross-border transfer mechanisms, ensuring they remain current and compliant across all regions. Monitor regulatory developments and advise on their impact, adapting internal practices to maintain compliance with evolving laws and frameworks. Partner with security and technology teams to align privacy and cybersecurity strategies and embed privacy-by-design principles into product development and operations. Lead training and awareness initiatives across the business to promote a privacy-by-design culture, strengthening a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Operate effectively in a fast-paced, international environment, working autonomously while collaborating closely with legal, compliance, product, operations, and business teams to deliver practical, risk-based privacy solutions.

Requirements



3+ years leading a global privacy function within a fintech, payments, or other regulated financial services with experience working with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards. Deep understanding of UK/EU GDPR, international data transfer mechanisms, and emerging global privacy frameworks. Experience collaborating with global, distributed teams and influencing stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to balance commercial pragmatism with regulatory rigour. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced global environment. Relevant privacy certifications (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) are highly desirable.
