Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Database Administrator to oversee the organisation, maintenance, and optimisation of our company databases. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and security of our data systems. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with a diverse range of database technologies including MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Linux environments. The ideal applicant will possess strong skills in database design, scripting, and administration to support our organisation's data needs effectively.

Responsibilities



Manage and maintain multiple database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server to ensure optimal performance and security. Design and implement efficient database structures tailored to organisational requirements. Perform regular performance tuning and optimisation to enhance database responsiveness. Develop, test, and deploy scripts using Bash (Unix shell), Shell Scripting, and PL/SQL to automate routine tasks. Ensure high availability of critical databases through replication, clustering, and failover strategies. Monitor database health and troubleshoot issues proactively to minimise downtime. Implement security measures including user access controls and data encryption to safeguard sensitive information. Collaborate with development teams on database integration with applications such as SSIS for data migration and ETL processes. Document database configurations, procedures, and standards for compliance and knowledge sharing.

Experience



Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role with a strong understanding of database management systems including MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Linux-based environments. Demonstrable expertise in database design principles and performance optimisation techniques. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash (Unix shell), Shell Scripting, and PL/SQL for automation tasks. Hands-on experience with high availability solutions like clustering or replication setups. Familiarity with SQL query optimisation and performance tuning practices. Knowledge of SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) for data integration projects is desirable. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
