As a Datacentre Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and support of our datacentre facilities in Wolverhampton and Redditch. You will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our infrastructure whilst providing exceptional customer service to our colocation and connectivity clients through telephone, ticket, and hands-on support.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and maintain datacentre infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, and power systems.
Carry out routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
Respond to and resolve technical issues promptly, minimising downtime and ensuring client satisfaction.
Provide hands-on support for colocation and connectivity clients, ensuring seamless service delivery.
Offer telephone and ticket-based support to address client queries and technical issues efficiently.
Lift, rack, and install servers and other equipment, ensuring proper setup and alignment.
Perform cable management and labelling to maintain organised and efficient datacentre operations.
Keep a clean and tidy work environment, adhering to datacentre safety and cleanliness standards.
Liaise with external contractors where applicable to coordinate maintenance, repairs, or installations.
Conduct regular inspections and audits of datacentre systems to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Collaborate with the wider team to implement new technologies and improve operational processes.
Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing client queries and providing timely updates on service requests.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems, processes, and client interactions.
Skills and Qualifications
Proven experience in datacentre operations, IT infrastructure, or a similar technical role.
Strong knowledge of server hardware, networking, and power/cooling systems.
Familiarity with datacentre monitoring tools and network troubleshooting techniques.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Exceptional customer service skills with a professional and approachable demeanour.
Experience providing telephone, ticket, and hands-on technical support.
Physical capability to lift and rack servers and perform cable management tasks.
Attention to detail in labelling and maintaining a clean work environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience liaising with external contractors is advantageous.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, CCNA, or equivalent) are advantageous.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and operational needs.
