Barnet African Caribbean Association is a small but long-standing registered charity dedicated to supporting older people from African and Caribbean backgrounds and those with links to these regions.

Barnet African Caribbean Association are recruiting relief bank Day Service Support Workers to assist with the running of our vibrant day centre based in Hendon that runs every Tuesday. Working hours will be 9am-4pm

Working alongside our Day Service Manager and existing team of staff and volunteers, the successful candidate will support the running of day service sessions in a warm, caring and empathetic manner.

About the Role



Barnet African Caribbean Association are recruiting Relief Bank Day Service Support Workers to assist with the running of our vibrant day centre. Working alongside our Day Service Manager and existing team of staff and volunteers, the successful candidate will support the smooth running of day service sessions in a warm, caring and empathetic manner.

Please note, though this role is to provide cover on an occasional basis to cover staff absence and special events when extra staff are needed, over time, this role could lead to regular hours for the right candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities:



To contribute to the high-quality care provided, making sure appropriate support and high-quality activities are planned and delivered To contribute to the planning of weekly activities for small groups or one to one on a day-to-day basis, as well as supporting events. To lead group activities and support during outings To promote and maintain a high standard of care practises within the day centre. To assist in the daily preparation of the centre ensuring the premises are ready to receive clients safely and in comfort. To ensure clients are ready to safely and comfortably use their chosen transport options at the end of each session In line with internal and external standards, ensure dietary requirements are understood and any food or beverages are provided appropriately and carefully. To review and monitor the progress of clients in line with their care plans and report and recommend changes to activities as appropriate.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Knowledge/Skills/Experience



ESSENTIAL:



Empathy Good communication skills Work experience in a care environment or community service setting An understanding of the need for client confidentiality Experience of working as part of a team A good understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers Creativity to organise activities for people, many of whom may be at different stages of dementia or cognitive impairment Able to work at short notice on a Tuesday in order to cover last minute/unplanned staff absence

DESIRABLE:



Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Health & Safety and the Mental Capacity Act NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care Knowledge of statutory or voluntary agencies in Barnet and how they relate to those aged 55 and over
