Deck Rating 1A - Western Isles Fleet (Seasonal 2026

We're looking for a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our crew as a permanent Deck Rating 1A. This is a hands-on role at the heart of vessel operations, where you'll play a key part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional running of our services. Whether assisting with mooring operations, vehicle deck support, maintaining deck equipment, or supporting passenger safety, you'll be an essential part of a close-knit team delivering reliable transport across our Western Isles Fleet routes. The summer season is from March/April to September/October.

Principal Accountabilities:


Assist with mooring operations, handling ropes and operating deck machinery as required. Assist with vehicle deck operations as required. Assisting in general planned maintenance routines as directed by the Bosun. Duties as required by muster list in an emergency, including drills and emergencies. Assist with directing passengers off the vehicle decks to the passenger areas, including
directing mobility impaired passengers to and from the passenger lift
Conduct bridge watch keeping duties and/or vehicle deck checks on passage. Carry out security gangway duties in the absence of a Nightwatch Person.
Any other duties as reasonably required by the Master or Head of Department.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience -


Essential:


Valid ENG 1 medical certificate (no restrictions). STCW II/5 Certificate of Competency as an Able Seafarer Deck. Navigational Watch Rating certificate Efficient Deck Hand certificate STCW Personal Survival Techniques (updated in the preceding 5-years) STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (updated in the preceding 5-years) STCW Elementary First Aid STCW PSSR STCW Security Awareness STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats Certificate (updated in the preceding 5-years) STCW Crowd Management STCW Crisis Management & Human Behaviour STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety & Hull Integrity STCW Designated Security Duties STCW Fast Rescue Boats (updated in the preceding 5 years)



Desirable:


Effective communication skills. Experience acting up in the Higher Grade would be advantageous. Safety focused and familiar with CoSWP, permit to work and risk assessment processes. Customer focus and a clear understanding of the customer interface and have a
proactive approach to customer care.
