Deckhand
to join our Marine Services team in Barry.
About the Role
As a Deckhand, you'll play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our pilot boat. You'll assist with vessel handling, maintenance, and the secure transfer of marine pilots to and from ships - all while ensuring the vessel is ready for action in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with pilot embarkation and disembarkation
Handle mooring lines, fenders, and boarding equipment
Maintain vessel cleanliness and seaworthiness
Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs
Participate in safety drills and operate deck machinery
Inspect pilot ladders for compliance with safety standards
Support refuelling, waste disposal, and supply restocking
Cover additional duties across Barry and Swansea as required
What We're Looking For
Essential:
ENG1 or ML5 Medical Certificate
Experience on small commercial or pilot vessels
Strong understanding of maritime safety and seamanship
Physically fit and comfortable working in challenging sea conditions
Team player with good communication skills
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Desirable:
STCW Basic Safety Training
Powerboat Level 2 or Advanced
VHF Radio Operator Certificate
Knowledge of local port operations and geography
