Job Description

We have an position for a Decontamination Assistant to join our busy, friendly practice in the heart of Exeter.

Ideally looking for someone who has a background in cleaning, care work, lab assistant or theatre work and have had their hepatitis B vaccine to work in a clinical environment. However full job training will be given.

Working hours:



Monday - Thursday 08.45 - 17.30

Job Role



To assist our clinicians and nursing team to ensure the efficient running of our central sterilisation room. You will be responsible for the smooth day to day running of our central sterilisation room, and ensuring all reusable dental instruments are collected from outside the surgeries, cleaned, sterilised, repackaged to high standards, and returned to the surgeries ready to be reused.

Key Responsibilities:



Providing fully sterilised equipment that is compliant to practice policies, procedures and the HTM01-05 guidelines. To include:

o Prepare instrument trays for procedures.

o Maintain impeccable standards of hygiene and cross infection control, according to the latest guidelines and following practice procedures and policies.

Coordinating (as required) with the laboratory and surgeries on the

timely dispatch and receipt of lab work.

Ensure a smooth running of our central sterilisation room, completing the job list located on the wall in the room, completing daily tests and updating logbooks, carrying out audits as required.

Ensuring stock levels are managed.

To maintain a high standard of cleanliness/tidiness we require you to do some light cleaning duties as needed in the practice.

A professional and smart appearance, hair tied back neatly. Nails tidy and free of nail varnish, no false nails or extensions. Uniform to be ironed and changed daily.
