Job Overview



We are looking for a Dementia Care Specialist to join our team in Redbridge. This role focuses on delivering exceptional, person-centred care to residents living with dementia. You will conduct comprehensive assessments to understand individual needs, develop tailored care plans, and regularly review them to ensure effectiveness. A key part of the role involves implementing non-pharmacological interventions to manage challenging behaviours and enhance quality of life.



You will also lead staff training and workshops, promoting best practices and improving dementia care knowledge across the team. Collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals is essential to provide holistic support for residents.



Requirements:



Proven experience in dementia care and person-centred approaches.



Knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions.



Strong communication and teamwork skills.



Relevant health and social care qualifications (desirable).

Key Responsibilities



Comprehensive Assessment of Delirium:

Conduct evaluations of residents' cognitive, physical, and psychosocial aspects using appropriate tools.



Recognition & Management:

Identify delirium promptly and apply evidence-based interventions per NICE guidelines.



Holistic Care Planning:

Develop and review person-centred care plans addressing all resident needs.



Team Leadership:

Supervise care staff, fostering collaboration and high standards.



Policy Compliance:

Ensure adherence to NICE, NMC, and local dementia care protocols.



Dementia Subtypes:

Apply knowledge of subtypes to tailor care approaches.



Safeguarding & Legal:

Uphold safeguarding principles, MCA, and DoLS to protect rights.



Staff Training:

Deliver workshops to enhance dementia care understanding.



Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

Work with medical, social, and therapy teams for holistic care.



Monitoring & Evaluation:

Regularly assess residents and adjust care plans as needed.



Qualifications & Experience



Registered Nurse (RMN/RGN) or equivalent with clinical experience.



Expertise in dementia care, delirium management, and person-centred approaches.



Knowledge of NICE/NMC guidelines, safeguarding, MCA, and DoLS.



Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.



Experience delivering staff training desirable.

Starting with NELFT



NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.



Probationary Period



This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).



High Cost Area Supplement



This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of 4,714 to a maximum of 5,941 per annum (pro rata for part time).
