Job Summary
You will be part of the dental nursing team providing nursing and administrative support to the clinician, whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification in dental nursing and registration with the General Dental Council.

The post holder is expected to be aware of and comply with all Smile Dental Care policies and procedures.
The post holder is expected to maintain and update their knowledge on the Smile Dental Care compliance system and ensure that any updates issued are adhered to.
Develop competence across a wide range of dental chair side support procedures.
Develop knowledge of a wide range of practical dental treatment procedures and the relevant support necessary to ensure effective outcomes.
Develop competence in the use and application of dental materials across a wide range of dental treatment procedures.
Develop a comprehensive knowledge of use and application of a wide range of dental instruments and other relevant equipment necessary during dental treatment procedures.
Learn to prepare individual treatment rooms for a wide range of dental procedures.
Develop and demonstrate competence in decontamination and sterilisation of dental devices within clinical and non-clinical environments, ensuring appropriate testing and validation records are completed.
General Duties:
Maintain the dental surgery as a welcoming, clean, organised and tidy area.
Be flexible with duties to ensure smooth running of the practice.
The post holder is required to be aware of and adhere to the General Dental Councils Standards for the Dental team and comply with CQC requirements.
Attend and participate in practice meetings and regular appraisals and supervision meetings with the practice manager.
Dependent upon the establishment of nurses and the sessional attendance of clinicians, you may be required to cover other Smile sites during the working week. On occasions, this may be at short notice.
You may be expected to provide reception duties as necessary for the efficient running of the practice.
There may be some physical effort in the moving and handling of equipment, this is to be done in line with Health & Safety protocol.

Purpose and aims of the role
You will be part of the dental nursing team providing nursing and administrative support to the clinicians.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder is required to hold a current registration with the General Dental Council and be aware of and adhere to the GDC Standards for the Dental team.
Health and Safety:
Ensure that the practice environment and equipment within it is kept clean and tidy.
Full set up and shut down of the dental surgery and decontamination room in line with practice protocol.
Provide an aseptic clinical environment and ensure that surgery is disinfected after every patient.
Carry out the testing, validation and maintenance of all sterilization equipment in line with practice protocol and the HTM01-05.
Sterilization of all dental equipment and instruments in line with practice protocol and the HTM01-05.
Use all equipment, instruments and machinery in line with manufacturer's recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order.
There may be some physical effort in the moving and handling of equipment, this is to be done in line with health & safety protocol.
Ensure the safe handling of substances, equipment and materials in line with COSHH guidelines.
Ensure the safe and correct disposal of substances, equipment and materials in line with practice protocol.
Ensure the correct disinfection of all laboratory items in line with practice protocol.
Quality Customer Care and Support the clinician in the management of the patient and ensure the care and welfare of patients.
Wherever possible, anticipate patients' anxieties and answer questions, referring to clinician/ practice manager for further assistance if necessary.
Handle complaints in accordance with the Smile Dental Care complaints policy.
Clinical Duties:
Maintain the dental surgery as a welcoming, clean, organised and tidy area.
Ensure adequate stock of materials and consumable and re order appropriately.
Ensure that all relevant patient notes, documentation and laboratory work is ready for the clinical session.
Provide chair side assistance to the clinician, ensuring that all equipment, Instruments and materials are ready for each patient case.
Assist the clinician when taking radiographs and ensure they are correctly processed and stored on the patients clinical records.
Liaise with dental laboratories, supply companies, internal company personnel and other organisations as required.
Be flexible with duties to ensure smooth running of the practice.
Maintain current GDC registration and professional indemnity insurance.
